Other out-of-state teams in the Hoopfest are — the nation’s No. 2 ranked team Oak Hill Academy, as coach Steve Smith enters his 24th season as head coach (733-44) and returns five of the top eight players rated in the nation and has a newcomer at point guard with Lamont “Mo Mo” Jones, who has verbally committed to Virginia Tech along with the University of Oklahoma recruit Keith “Tiny” Gallon, Glenn Bryant, Doron Lamb, Bryon Allen and Pe’Shon Howard.

 

No. 5 nationally ranked Findlay Prep’s head coach Michael Peck announced that three seniors from his team have signed on to universities for next fall.

 

Carlos Lopez has signed with UNLV, while DJ Richardson has signed with Illinois. Avery Bradley will be heading to play ball at the University of Texas. Senior Victor Rudd is drawing lots of interest, but will continue to weigh his options before signing.

 

No. 8 ranked Christ School finished 34-2 last season, while winning the North Carolina Independent 3A State championship. Coach David Gaines returns the bulk of that team and is led by Duke Blue Devil signee Mason Plummlee. Also featured on the Greenies squad are South Carolina signee Lakeem Jackson and Harvard signee Dee Giger.

 

Also competing is Westbury Christian, who is one of the top-ranked private schools in Texas. Westbury boasts three all-state performers, led by senior forward Kevin Perry and junior Nick Shepherd.

 

Teams like New York’s Our Savior New American, who is also a top-notch team, features guard Rayner Moquette. Princeton High’s Orlando Williams has signed with Miami-Ohio, while Marquis Horne has a verbal committment to Ohio University and teammate Jordan Sibert has given verbal committment to Ohio State. Mississippi’s Jackson Provine features senior guard Marcus Hooten and Emery Kelly, while Largo High will also make an appearance in the prep showcase.

What kind of crowd do you expect for the Hoopfest? I was planning on catching a game or two this weekend if a man can find a seat.

Decent crowd on Thursday. Expect a very good crowd on Friday and a full house on Saturday for both sessions. It would be a real shame if it wasn't with this type of talent coming to town. I believe that the games are being broadcast on numerous TV stations (WAVE TV on their digital channel and one of the Lexington stations on Saturday as well as some out of state TV stations).

This is a fantastic showcase. Several college scouts will be in London the next few days, and who can blame them. It is a great way to see several quality players at one venue. :thumb:

In the Holmes/Largo game, alone, there will be 8 D1 prospects on the floor at one point:

Findlay Prep was probably the best team at the Marshall County Hoopfest, along with St. Benedicts (Newark, NJ) and Oak Hill Academy. Findlay was very talented and didn't mind playing defense.

Thats funny. I watched them play Mt Zion at LCA and both teams looked awful. Neither team played very good defense and neither team could score. Both teams had open shots all night and couldn't hit. It was sad to watch. As far as St. Benedicts goes I saw them on tv last year and they were very impressive and well coached.
