January 21, 200917 yr Author Who needs Manny when you can sign Johnny Gomes to a minor league deal, like the Redlegs did today. Signing Jonny Gomes to a minor league deal is a great move by the Reds. It doesn't fill any huge needs, but what does it hurt? We're not paying him much (I'd guess under $1 million) and he has some major league experience - and some major league success. I agree though. He's a far cry from Manny.
January 21, 200917 yr Author Back to topic.. It would ruin their whole team, no money to do anything. Especially if you only get him for two years. If the Reds do things the right way, they'll have Jay Bruce, Joey Votto, Edinson Volquez & Johnny Cueto locked up to long term deals at an affordable price. Trade Francisco Cordero at some point this season to the Yanks or some other market who is willing and able to pick up the majority of his salary. Jared Burton will step into the role of closer, and Arthur Rhodes will slide into the set up role. If we're in contention, move Homer Bailey to the bullpen and see what he can do there. Take the money you'll save from young players like Bruce, Votto, etc. and Cordero's salary (upwards of $12 mill) and make a push for Manny. And to make Manny possible, we've got to get rid of Alex Gonzalez's contract. At this point, I'm not sure he'll hold up for a whole season. And I'm not sold that he's our best SS either.
January 21, 200917 yr Let's live in the present Not worry about stuff that happened before our times  I've got to see three World Series Champions here in Cincinnati, how many have you seen the Cubs win again? I'll hang up and listen.
