Let me re-phrase that, the 4th game in Hicks system. If you have tape of that game, go back and see how many times the offense started by Euton throwing it in, the guard taking it down the side, then throwing to Euton up top and he would either shoot or swing it if the shot wasn't available. I definatly agree with Holmes being ranked ahead of them based on the head to head match up. I also believe that Holmes athleticism gave Phares and Euton a lot of problems. But if (and hopefully from a fans view) they meet again, see if Scott Co. doesn't try to press more often because it gave Holmes fits at the end of the game.

 

Scott Co didn't press much in the first half because they couldn't score consistently enough..

Scott Co. won the Sweet 16 just 2 years ago.

 

 

How soon I forget. That's right. They beat Ballard in the finals in 2007. It's really hard to believe with all the great Scott County teams over the last 10 years that they have only won it once in that time period. No matter how tough they have been, I guess it goes to show that ending the season at Number 1 in Kentucky is no small task.

Yeah Elliott at #2 because they have beat some quality top 25 teams in the state. No wait. They haven't played anyone in this top 25. :lol:

While EC has only one win against top 20 teams in Ky (Anderson Co.) they have several wins against very talented teams outside the state. They have beaten the #1 team in 2A and 3A South Carolina (Southside, Myrtle Beach) and beaten the #1 team in 3A West Virginia (South Charleston) by 25 points. They also own a win over a top 10 team in all of Canada (Pickerning). While Myrtle Beach would compare more to a team around the range of 18-25 in Kentucky, all the others would compare to top 10 in this state. There is 5 wins over quality teams while only one loss to Cedar Hill, TX, who just so happened to knock off the preseason #1 team in the nation in Duncanville, TX recently.

 

Does this mean EC is the #1 team in the state, no. Does that mean that EC has a schedule as tough as Scott Co or Holmes, no. But all this stuff that EC hasn't beaten anyone is off base and gets really old.

I stand corrected. Those sound like nice wins and I'll admit I didn't do my homework like you did. I do know that when I saw them in the Sweet 16 they were a very exciting team to watch and I have no doubt if they make a splash again this year that they'll have all, if not most of Rupp Arena behind them. I'm thrilled also that one of your twins is headed to NKU next year. It'll be a blast to be able to frequently witness his amazing downtown shooting. They bring a great good old-fashioned charm into this whole soap opera that's going to make the Sweet 16 this year that much sweeter. There's great story lines coming from all over the state. I don't think that anyone can claim that this is a lame year in Kentucky High School Basketball and with Elliott's previous experience on the state level and the numbers they put up, they certainly have earned their right to be discussed in this same conversation no matter where they're from. Actually when you think about it, they've seen Rupp's floor a whole lot more than even the big boys from Scott County. That has got to mean a lot.

Here is the thing. We are taking your word for it that these teams are all as good as you say. The last time I checked Myrtle Beach had a losing record. I wouldn't call them that strong a team. The thing is we have no way of knowing if a top 10 team from Canada would be a top 10 or top 20 team in Ky. The only good team Elliott has played in Ky is Anderson Co. They are a top 25 team, but not as good as a lot of teams in Ky and they took Elliott to overtime. Now I don't put much stock into 1 game, but the fact remains that Elliott Co. hasn't proven they can beat top 10 teams in Ky like other programs have done. I am not sayig they can't, but they haven't done it before.

Taking nothing away from Holmes, with Scott County beating up on Bryan Station at Bryan Station by 27, they are most certainly making a statement that they have become a typical, tough-as-nails, Hick's Scott County team. If I were Holmes, I would dismiss their early victory over Scott County and assume nothing less that if their two paths shall meet again that they will be facing a WAY more ferocious Scott County team than they did in their first meeting and that they will be in the GAME OF THEIR LIVES. On any given year, no matter who is rated #1, year after year Scott County consistently keeps proving that they are just as worthy of that top spot as anyone else. They've moved into a region that's much harder to get out of than in the past, which helps explain why they haven't won the Sweet 16 in awhile or always have been in it, but you better believe that as long as Hicks is in charge, he will put a team on the court that has only one rating position in mind and that would be Number 1. I don't think that I've ever seen a Hick's Scott County team worthy of anything less. So year after year, for me, Number 1 is whoever is really good on any given year and ALWAYS Scott County. At least as long as Hicks is there. Instead of splitting hairs, at this stage of the season, I would say that Scott County and Holmes both can claim the Number 1 position. All this coming from a 9th Region supporter who is very happy that Holmes is doing so well this year, but I wouldn't want the local boys to get caught up with ratings and get too full of themselves to not respect what a giant Scott County is. As far a Elliott goes, it's a nice little story (and I always love nice little stories) but it's hard to say considering that they really haven't played anyone. I was very impressed with them at the last 2 Sweet 16's and don't have much doubt that they can play with the best of them, but if I were them, I would've developed a tougher schedule to better prepare them for what they will face down the road and to help silence the critics of their Number 1 rating. Sure, they average a million points a game, but against a schedule of nobodies. Can you really blame anyone for scratching their heads or questioning their worthiness?

Read my last post. I said that I admitted to not having done my homework on the strength in the teams that they have faced when RA09 called me out about it. Read just a bit further and you'll also see that I put in a few more kind words about Elliott. I have no ax to grind about Elliott. I think their story is awesome. Maybe 'nobodies' is a bit extreme or rude. I was really using it in the generic sense of the word and meant no harm to any teams specifically. And nothing against any team in the state of Kentucky, The United States, or the whole Northern Hemisphere for that matter. I think most understood 'nobodies' as reference to teams that were not in the Top 20 with no harm intended. We don't know. Team #21 may rise up and shock us all and take the whole Sweet 16 by storm. Stranger things have happened. Look at E-Town from 2000. Ultimately though, I meant no harm and hope that it's not taken as such...

Hits the nail on the head. Holmes beat Scott County very convincingly, BUT it was on a night that Phares was a non factor due to foul trouble, Holmes shot the ball well, and Euton did very little until garbage time at the end. As a Holmes guy, I hope things go that way the next time, but no way do I count on it. I would expect the next meeting, should it happen, to be a great game where you will see more production out of Phares for SC and Rico for Holmes.

I am not only a fan of the 11th region, I am a big fan of the sweet 16. High school basketball is great entertainment!!!!!!

 

I did not remember the score, but I was sure they didn't win back to back titles. I had a sweet 16 program from last year in my office.
