BINGO! That's what people who think this is a good idea can't seem to get through their head. Their main reason for agreement with an idiotic bill like this is simply because they dislike guns and think no one should own one.

 

You would find very, very few people with the cajones to truly admit this, but it is the truth. They don't like guns, think they're inherently evil, and don't want anyone else to have one since they don't themselves own one. So they blindly support laws like this that infringe further and further upon the 2nd amendment rights under the guise (or perhaps truly believing) that it'll make the world a "safer, better place". I really wish someone would just be honest and come out and say, "I hate guns, therefore I support any law that restricts the ownership to anyone."

 

I am not directing this statement to ANYONE specificly in this thread. This is just a generalization from talking to many people about gun issues.

I'm not blind, and your comments are too generalized to define what people who support gun control really feel.

 

I don't hate guns. But, I do hate the misuse of guns, whether that be by a legal or illegal gun owner.

 

My philosophy is simple. The purpose of a weapon is to maim and/or kill. Guns are dangerous objects and if one wishes to own one, then one should be prepared to accept the consequences of misuse. I'm tired of reading newspaper accounts of innocents killed by improper storage or use of guns. I'm tired of hearing that the only way to protect oneself is by owning a gun. I'm tired of being told that I'm naive because I feel that as with any right, comes responsibility and limits. There are limits and responsibilities and dangers attached to all our rights. Requiring one to provide fingerprints and ID's is not only reasonable, but is responsible control for a device specifically manufactured to wound/kill.

What's unconstitutional? There's nothing in the Constitution that says you have the right to own a gun with no policies, procedures, laws, or regulation. It just says that you have the right to bear arms.

Would you feel the same way if you had to obtain a government to exercise your right of free speech or to attend the church of your choice?

To the part in bold, you are wrong and it shows your lack of knowledge of guns and gun owners if you think that's all guns and gun owners are about.

As to the rest, there are ENOUGH laws in place now deal with problems like these, simple enforcement is all it takes. I'm sick and tired of my rights being whittled down to practically nothing because of people thinking we need more taken away because someone misuses a gun. I'm sick of being treated like a criminal simply because I choose to do what the 2nd Amendment gives me every right to do! I do not want to be finger printed, I committed no crime, it's absurd!

Registration with the Federal Government is the first step in the eventual confiscation. It has happened in at least 2 western democracies and while our Constitution currently has it in there I don't like the idea of there being a national registry of that sort of thing.

 

All it takes a declaration of martial law and the next thing you know the populace is completely unarmed. I am not saying it is likely, but it is a possibility.
