My thought after watching MC...They look like a very good ball club with some good size and and nice touch...The problem I seen is they seemed a step off...Kind of out of sync...If they pick it up a notch and get a good flow going...They will be dangerous...That Watt kid has some nice skills...

McCreary is really young. If I'm not mistaken the Raiders only have one senior, correct? They probably have the best player in the region, but there are a lot of weak spots on that roster in my opinion. McCreary can still make noise in the playoffs, but they are starting to settle into the middle of the pack in the 12th Region.

I can't really gauge McCreary Central.

-Lexington Catholic

-Trinity (Louisville)

-Twice to Wayne

-Dyer County, TN (top team in TN)

-And a one point loss at Danville.

That's a very fair post. Those are all top-quality teams, with the exception of Danville. I think the problem with McCreary is that every time people want to believe they are the best team in the region, they get beat and people begin to question again.

Honestly, I don't think there is a best team in the region. It will come down to who makes shots, who plays defense the best, and who plays like a team come tournament time. It may be Danville vs. Burgin for the region championship. Nearly any team - ANY TEAM - can win.

That might be a blessing in disguise because they are learning to play their best every night in order to win. You can't have an off night in the 12th Region because everyone is capable of beating everyone else.

That may very well end up being the case. The 12th is indeed wide open. It is also the weakest overall I can ever remember it being. This could be a season like when Mercer ended up getting hot in the Region and going to Rupp with a losing record. McCreary certainly has the talent and the time to get right back into the favorite's role but right now they seem to be struggling to find consistency.

Young teams usually do. But young teams can also play very well and no understand that. It's like a two pronged sword.

Danville has only four wins, but man, those wins look nice:

 

1. Clay County

2. Lincoln County

3. Boyle County

4. McCreary Central

 

The win over Lincoln County was during the Byran Station tournament 68-66 on a buzzer-beater. I am not one to make excuses but Lincoln County seemed unfocused in that game and they avenged the loss last week at home by beating Danville 70-49.

3-5 in their last 8 can't be good for a young team. If you can get some wins early for the young team, you need to carry that success over to the middle part, then you can carry it over to the late part of the season and the district. Should a coach be unable to carry the early succes over then things can slide down hill in a hurry. Watts can't carry that team by himself, and if he does not get some serious help soon it could be big trouble for the Raiders. (again)

 

With only 4 home games in their last 11, and 4 of their last 5 on the road, the schedule is not favorable for a young team.

My pick also. The tourney is at Burgin in what should be a close game. Burgin has beat Mercer (at Mercer) and is better than most think. If they were to win if would probably be their first trip to EKU for the state. Probably the smallest school to ever make the tourney with only about 120 students in High School.

Maybe not so close after all. Danville picked up another big win over a good Adair County team tonight and Burgin got blasted at home by West Jessamine.
