Best thing about tonight was that the burg was down 12 in the 4th as mentioned and fought back to have a chance to win the game.

 

I thought Teague worked his butt off. St John is very good but he was outhustled several times by Teague.

 

Taylor played like they need him to.

 

Taylor and Cunningham both may be buying more into the "team" concept.

 

Change up in the starting lineup by inserting freshman Kevin Hoffman. He brings nice energy to the team and not being from around here he pays no attention to the name on the opponents jerseys.

3 point shot by SL definitely hit the guidewire. Entire gym saw it and then watched it wobbling for several seconds. NO way a 3 man crew should not see (and call that). I'm not very good at math, but if you subtract 3 from SL score, what happens.

 

I still think they (refs) protect St. John. I believe they do it for notable players and I believe they do it for notable coaches.

 

Not quoting numbers, but SL shot more than twice as many free throws as WHS in 2nd half.

 

I don't find SL in the same league as Corbin (talent, physicality, anything), and sorry Bubba, I don't think they handcheck, grab, hold, bump, etc. nearly as much. Don't get me wrong, I still respect the heck out of you as a friend and a basketball mind:)

I believe that is what the arbitre program is supposed to do. Maybe Robinson and Wright have them ranked high, and if so, then the program is working.

When South played Whitley last friday the Colonels shot ZERO (0) DE NADA, EL ZICHO free throws in the second half and only 6 for the game. Not griping, just pointing that out, I find that very interesting coupled with your stat.

 

Like I said in another thread, when Williamsburg plays together, they could show dramatic improvement, looks like they played like a team tonight. Hope to see this trend continue for the Jackets.

The reason that some people may not have been there was because they have the same schedule that I have which has the game for tomorrow night and that is why I was not there.

The 3-point shot most definitely hit the guide wire. I saw it myself vibrating after the shot. The Ref’s might have missed it hitting the guide wire but there is no way they could have not saw that wire moving. Coach Robinson and most of the Williamsburg side were pointing at it swaying. I will be the first to admit that I think Williamsburg tends to be a little whiney when it comes to calls but they have a few legitimate gripes concerning tonight’s game. The 3-point shot that hit the guide wire is one and the lack of calls against SL is another. I do not like the fact that the Ref’s would go over to St. John and pat on him during the game. This happened on more than one occasion and it does not look right.

Tonight’s game was really enjoyable and I thought both teams played well. The Jackets are playing together more as a team. This should make the District tournament very interesting if they can keep up the teamwork. I liked the addition of the Hoffman kid to the lineup but I would have liked to have seen another big man in the game.

 

A question…..Has anyone heard if St. John has been approached by any colleges yet? What about any other players in our surrounding area? Josh Crawford, Jamie Lebanion, Mike Crawford, Jacob Teague, Aaron Cunningham, Jonah Mitchell, Cody Miller?

Hats off to the cards for even getting a win tonight. Next up Seneca in the LIT then possibly Ballard Friday if they win Wednesday if not congratulations SL you get Madison Central at home.

Hey Black Jack...you forgot to mention Mike Storms for Whitley County. He has been tearing it up lately....has numerous double doubles and is still growing...up to 6' 5" now. Can play inside out too. Good player!

I'm not taking anything away from St. John. I'm just saying that it appears that he is shown some favoritism due to the fact that he was the only player from both sides that the Ref's continually made contact with on a personal level throughtout the game last night. If they want to appear impartial then they need to refrain from that sort of socializing.

The only thing that gets under my skin is the fact that a controversial call may have made a difference in the game. I hate to see a solid effort fall victim to a missed call. Jackets are proving they won't be an easy 1st round opponent for anyone.

 

As far as the SL cheering section...They seemed to have disappeared after the departure of the "Big 3." I guess we'll see them the next time SL has a team that is head-and-shoulders above the rest.

I really don't think that St. John gets preferential treatment..............Wright though is definitely another matter.

 

South Laurel's weakness this year is that they are not a very good defensive team, especially at the guard position. They miss Jones and Bortman more than most people think.

 

The South Laurel fan support at the two Corbin games has been about half as large as it was 2-3 years ago, but I half to admit that I don't really miss them.:laugh:

This is not a Whitley/SL thread but I will say what cost Whitley the game was the fact that St. John blocked or altered a bushel basket of Whitley shots, that and the fact that when St. John was out Whitley did not take advatage.

You mention Pettit as being a tandem with Teague that could give any 5 fits...You are exactly right. BUT, Pettit has to buy into this. He has the height, body, strength, talent, and skills to be an extremely effective 4 man. Give up the desire to make the no look passes, the flops to draw a charge, the 17 footer that has him back peddling across half court before the ball even hits the rim. Use what the good Lord gave you!!!!!!! Put your butt on the low block with your back to the bucket, show the guards where to give you the ball, make a strong move, and you'll get to the line. Then use your love of the 15' shot to knock down foul shots. I am not totally against him shooting from the perimeter occasionally, but after the shot, slash to the bucket to go after the offensive rebound. Pettit could help this team IMMENSLEY, but it won't happen until he embraces the fact that he is a post player not a perimeter player. Pettit could average a double/double if he would be willing to put on a hard hat and go to work in the paint. It may not be what he enjoys the most, but if he wants to be a contributing member of this team night in and night out, that's how he can accomplish that. W'burg is making some noise by playing quality competition closely, and I honestly believe that if someone could get Pettit to play as I have described, he would be the missing piece in a puzzle that could enable the Jackets to notch many more quality wins and be ready to make some noise in the district tourney.
