A good measuring stick for the Indians will be this Friday at home against Clark County. Lots of interesting weather in the forecast this week, though.

 

I wouldn't put them in the top 3 of the region, however.

One thing that many of these ranking do not take into consideration is players getting hurt, and having to miss games, or out for other reasons.

 

Did GRC have their full team playing when they played Scott Co. at Memorial?

I agree. In the past years they would play a very weak schedule and have a great record. Now that Keith Geiser has taken over , he has improved their schedule ...will play anyone at any time.

When is the last time they won the region???? That's a huge slap in the face to Coach Hump at GRC and Mason's coach who won a state championship last year.

 

It's easy to win the region when you have the players that Mason County has had. A great coach is a coach who just wins championships but a great coach is someone who has a winning tradition yes but also takes teams with no talent/experience and makes them a competitive team by the end of the season. A coach who teaches flawless and fundamentally sound basketball. A lot like coach Code did with Brossart last year. They were a team who lost 7 seniors from the previous season and had no returning varsity players at all and he still went to All A State and upset an good LCA team and gave University Heights a very good game. Then missed taking his team to regionals because of a buzzer beater by Ccott in the district tournament. That sounds like a coach who deserves that title of best coach to me.

Totally disagree. I had to deal with the pain that is Harrison's current coach for a couple of years. The coach wouldn't win the game for Harrison, it would have to be all players!

Purvis is out and will be out all season and Stenzel just came off a sprained ankle and was out of shape and Hatton has been bothered with sprained ankles all season . I'm not big on excuses but these are just the facts .Clark wasn't up to par when they played Scott Co.

I know a few from Campbell County that wouldn't agree with you... By the way, Reitz never came within fifteen points of Brossart at Campbell, with arguably more talent in one of his years. I don't see how people have Clark over Mason so far this year. I think they're the clear cut number one...

In Campbell County you would be hard pressed to find someone who misses Reitz or would take him over Code as a head coach. His career has been no better than mediocre in the recent past.

I can see how some can put Clark ahead of Mason on paper but out on the floor i think Mason wins 4 of 5 against Clark.

Yes this is true. But you also have to win. And I'm pretty sure that GRC lost 4 seniors (all starters) off the Region champioship team and went 22-8 winning their district and losing to eventual State champ Mason County last year in the Regional. Not 15-13. I'm not saying that Code is not a great coach, just not the best.

I don't know how may people are noticing but Zollo is quietly getting his legs under him and is putting up the numbers he was expected to. If he can keep this up Clark is going to be a tough out. What has Clark done to be ranked ahead of Mason County? Mason County won a tournament in Florida, was an elbow to the face and a fainting fan away from beating Scott Co. (who some say is the best team in the state) on their home floor, and would've beat Highlands if they weren't missing two of their Seniors. They also would've beat Franklin Co. if they hadn't shot such an awful free throw percentage (3-16).

 

So basically, they could and maybe even should be undefeated. But things happen and they have lost three games, all to teams who are in or have been in the top 25. Clark got beat on a neutral floor by Scott Co. by like 20 or so, and Mason Co. almost beat them on their home floor without a starter for almost 3/4 of the game. If Clark Co. was the favorite in the preseason, Mason County has definitely closed the gap, and maybe even become the favorite in the 10th.

Mason is the defending 10th region champions and no one as of yet has knocked them off that high horse so why shouldnt they be ranked first? What havent they done not to deserve it? Ive always been told to be the champ you have to beat the champ and until someone does their the number 1 team.

Like I said what have they done?? Yeah Clark lost to Scott Co. by 20. With their two best players at less then 100%. They have also beat two top 25 teams. Mason has not. Their losses came to two top 25 teams and Madison Central(without Stenzel) who has lost only three games and beat Jeffersontown the #2 team in the rankings. It just seems that the arguments for Mason all include losses.
