Mason County 59 Campbell County 57 (2OT) (Frosh)

Buzzer sounded on a missed free throw. I guess the clock operator thought it went in and was bringing in a sub. Play stopped and Mason picked the ball up and scored. The refs counted the basket and it was Camels ball. Camels would have won in regulation had this not happened.

Haven't heard that one in quite a while? Sounds like a great freshman game. Camel's frosh playing very well!!

This play did not decide the outcome, there was still 3 plus minutes on the clock when this occurred. The fact of the matter is Mason rebounded the miss free throw, the buzzer sounded and Campbell County stopped dead in their tracks.

Which is why Mason should have gotten the ball out of bounds and no points awarded due to the inadvertent buzzer. Great point Pressrow!

Need more details! Buzzer would have stopped play. Basket should not have counted and whomever had possession would have in bounded the ball at the point the ball was at the buzzer.

The clock operator is considered an official as is the home scorekeeper.

Flop - as you see by a few of the replies the horn does not dictate play. The officials do. Its a live ball even if the horn goes off accidentally.

Ex: If A1 is dribbling and the horn goes off inadvertently it would be a double dribble if A1 stopped when he/she heard the horn then restarted when she realized that the officials had not stopped play.

I hate to disagree, but an inadvertent buzzer that creates an unfair advantage results in the possessing team taking the ball out of bounds close to the proximity of the last possession of the basketball.

Everything I've read/heard says that you play until the whistle. Its even discussed as part of the captain's meeting. Play to the whistle and not the horn. If you have a rulebook citation or casebook ruling, I'd be more than interested in reading it.

I found a couple of items pertaining to this.

6-7-5 says a ball becomes dead "when an official's whistle is blown." It says nothing about a horn other than when a quarter ends.

Casebook 2.11.3 says If the scorer signals while the ball is live, the official should ignore the signal if a scoring play is in progress.

So, a scoring play was in progress in this case, thus, the players are to play on.

Not to change the subject from all of this rules discussion:rolleyes:, but can anyone send me a Mason County Freshman schedule either here or through private message? Thanks.

Are home games at the Fieldhouse? Thanks

Are home games at the Fieldhouse? Thanks

I believe so, unless there is a notation otherwise (like the game that references the girls' gym). Someone else would know better than me (sumoroyal, pressrow, etc.),

Yes, the Freshman are at the Fieldhouse. The 8th and 7th play at the Fieldhouse as well.
