They were not as slow as what you would think, which is why I put that I think Listerman put them in to try it out to see if they could run the floor. Ives and Maile are not slow. Ives handled the ball well. Maile just needs to learn that passing on offense is the key, not dribbling so much and he is not the only player who needs to figure that out, he was just the one on the court last night. Wellbrock and Thelen ran the floor fine, and Isler who would be the slowest of the five did as well. And this was not a slow team by any means. Owensboro did not have their best player, that probably impacted the outcome, but they were not slow, they were fast.

And for the record, I do NOT think this is the lineup Listerman will go with. It's not his style. Thelen will still come off the bench. Which is great. But it was the best lineup they had on the floor last night, and I think Listerman is starting to realize he needs the big guys in there together. If you watched the games progress from the first game to this past one, you would see what I mean. He has gradually increased the amount of time he puts the big guys in together, whereas at the beginning he would only put one in at a time.

I wasn't there, but I'd have to agree with you. Owensboro has historically always been a very athletic team that likes to get out and run.

Is Thelen considered a big contributor? The only game I saw CovCath play this year, he didnt even play one minute. That was against Highlands so maybe he was hurt or something? But It's good to see CovCath's ahtletics picking up some wins after that long football season and questionable start to the basketball season. As for that lineup, yes it may be a tall lineup, but none of those players are "strong" players. I would much rather have a strong person in the post who is 6'0 compared to a skinny 6'4 kid. It may work against the smaller teams, but anyone who has speed or strength will mandle these guys.

From my source, it looks like Pauly didn't play a minute. So CovCath beats a very good Owensboro team without two of their three starting guards. One of these days the Colonels will be hitting on all cylinders when Shover and Pauly are both healthy.

 

Just curious but has any team this season played as tough as a schedule as CovCath has?

That is a slow bunch defensively. We're not talking about running sprints after practice. We're talking about the ability to move laterally on defense. Ives would be the only one with any semblance of quickness on the perimeter. Luke would be next. After that.... slow feet. That's not a criticism any more than saying they can't shoot well from outside is a criticism. They do what they do but being quick isn't on that list.

 

Any good coach would exploit that lineup with an open post offense.

Well, we'll agree to disagree. Their small lineup has looked pathetic, so trying something new is fine by me, and it has worked pretty well. They still are not going to be a dominant team in NKY, but it's much better than what they were at the beginning of this year.

Agreed. Jake has been seeing quality minutes, and is usually in there with Isler or Wellbrock to compliment him. He has progressed as the season has gone on, as at the beginning I was not very impressed. But he is doing fine now, and in the next two years will be pretty good for CCH. Needs to get stronger, and hold on to rebounds, he is just a little too soft at this point, but beyond that he is looking good.
