Holmes 45 Ballard 42

Featured Replies

Eta,

This result is a lot closer than most predicted.

Did Holmes struggle late with thBallard's pressure?

The No. 2 Bulldogs (5-1) led by as many as nine points in the fourth quarter but had to overcome several turnovers in the final minutes of the game to win.

"We need to finish better," Holmes coach David Henley said. "We didn't take care of the ball the last two minutes."

Wasn't at the game but that's from the link that I have posted above in post #28. You can read about the game there.

From nky.com:

Holmes outlasted Ballard 45-42 Saturday night in a matchup of Courier-Journal top-10 boys' basketball teams in the Defenders of the Station Invitational at Bryan Station High School.

The No. 2 Bulldogs (5-1) led by as many as nine points in the fourth quarter but had to overcome several turnovers in the final minutes of the game to win.

Ballard tied the score at 24-all in the third quarter, but Elijah Pittman followed with a dunk over several defenders at the other end to put Holmes ahead for good.

Any concern over the 4th quarter to's for the Dogs? Same thing happened against Scott County and it seems they were outscored big in the 4th q in their only loss.

Their problem hasn't been taking care of the ball in the 4th quarter. Their problem has been taking care of the ball in the last few minutes of the fourth quarter. Neither Scott Co or Ballard started giving them problems until around the 3 minute mark of the 4th.

As Henley said, they just need to learn to finish better. They committed turnovers late in both games but still managed to win over top 10 teams. If anything that just shows how good they can potentially be if they can learn to finish off teams late in the game.

Riley finished with 6 points tonight. Just found out he has a dislocated finger though.

That could hurt big time. I noticed the Bulldogs only made one 3 in the game.(Pittman)

From talking to Riley, it's on his non shooting hand and not as bad as it sounds so it shouldn't affect him too much.

Let's hope not.

What about his ball handling?

Another quality win for the Bulldogs. Congrats!

What about his ball handling?

Talked to him this morning. It's his ring finger. It's not bad enough to keep him out and may affect his shot A LITTLE, not much, but ball handling shouldn't be a problem.

Interesting...

The dislocated finger is on his shooting hand.

Riley is a right handed shooter.

He told me it's his ring finger (left hand) that is dislocated.

How was this game so low-scoring? I can't believe these 2 teams didn't have a game atleast in the high 60s.

A lot of turnovers for both teams and neither team shot the ball well. Both are very good defensive teams as well.

I think you are misinterpreting the information that has been relayed to you.

He disclocated his ring finger on his shooting hand.

You do have ring finger on both hands...as you do a thumbkin, pointer, tall man, ring man, and pinky.;)

Sorry to hear that. Injuries are a part of the game, but still I hate to see any kid get hurt. As a precaution he should wear a cast on it until February.
