"Almost" got the gig...

Featured Replies

The thread by KyTiger89 made me think of actors/actresses that "almost" got the role (or turned it down).

For example, Tom Sellick was offered the role of Indiana Jones. However, he had justed signed a contract to do Magnum, PI, and decided to fulfill his commitment.

Star Wars might have been different (or maybe not) if Sellick had taken the gig.

What other actors/actressed do you know were almost cast in a movie role?

How would Star Wars have been different if Selleck took the Indiana Jones role?

The stash would have slowed down the Millenium Falcon.

If we can include TV, Mickey Dolenz was offered the "Fonz" role on Happy Days.

I think he's saying then maybe Harrison Ford wouldn't have gotten the part of Hans Solo, although Ford was in Star Wars before Indiana Jones.

Christian Bale was almost cast as Jack Dawson in the Titanic. I wonder how that would have played for Leonardo, considering that was his breakthrough IMO.

Also, I think I heard that Will Smith turned down the role of Neo in The Matrix. Imagine that one.

Val Kilmer was almost cast as Johnny in Dirty Dancing.

Didn't Dustin Hoffman and Jack Nicholson both turn down the part of Michael Corleone?

I think he has asking this because the Indiana Jones character (which Selleck was apparently offered) had nothing to do with Star Wars.

I recall hearing that John Travolta had orginally been offered the lead role in 'Forrest Gump.' While I like Travolta, I could not possibly imagine anyone other than Hanks in that role.

Imagine how "The Sting" would have been different if Warren Beatty hadn't turned down the part of Hooker.

The role of Mr. Freeze was originally supposed to go to Patrick Stewart, who would've been perfect for the role. After the studio changed its mind to go with the "big-name actor" in Ah-nold, I gave up on the Batman franchise. It took the current Bale Batman to bring me back. (I've been a diehard Batman fan since I was a little kid, comparing how different he was in the comics as opposed to the TV series.)

I don't think it mattered who would have played Mr. Freeze...that movie was awful lol. I agree with you about Christian Bale's Batman movies.

I believe that Buddy Ebson was originally cast as the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz,but had to turn it down because he was allergic to the make-up.

Johnny Depp turned it down as well.

True, but I come from the Batman TV series line, where a good villain can make a crummy episode decent. Picard woulda been great for that role.
