Highlands Baseball Meeting

Featured Replies

Highlands had a "meet the coaches" night at the high school to introduce the new coaches on staff. It was a great turn out that was filled with some familiar faces and also some new ones. Things like spring break, spring football and goals and expectations were all discussed. I think its going to be a great year for Highlands Baseball!!

They're in great hands and I wish Highlands all the best.

I know the coach and I wish my child was old enough to play for him. HHS will be a fundemental team and WILL NOT beat themselves. He is the most prepared guy out there and bleeds baseball. Everywhere we go the conversation leads toward baseball and you can see him light up about it. I for one will make it to a lot of games this year just to sit back and watch a man do what he is meant to do. Good Luck Coach.

That must be a sight to see. I also wish him the best of luck.

How did the spring football discussion go?

Its was about 5 minutes... Had alot to do with when spring practice will happen since it has to do with basketball ending.

I had never met the new coach prior to the meeting, and I'm excited about the future of Highlands baseball now that I have.

The guy definitely bleed Highlands blue, and there's no doubt about his passion for the game. I also think he's a great age - young enough to have the energy it takes to make the type of improvements he'd like, but old enough to have some perspective on the school & town - and old enough to not take garbage from the kids.

I thought the spring break discussion was excellent - about the best compromise I can think of.

I could not agree with you more ft bronc! This Head Coach has been involved in the HHS baseball program for years. Not only has he coached for HHS for many past seasons, but he is very active in the Ft T. community. Last spring/summer, he also coached two other knothole teams, one of which was 5 and 6 year olds. He lives baseball from sun up to sun down 365 days a year and was a darn good former HHS baseball player. He regularly attends other HHS functions, not only in HHS's backyard, but he makes road trips. Beyond that he is a great family man and dad! Kids love playing for him! Also impressed with the staff that he chose. Obviously he put a lot of thought into it.

I'm sure the meeting was informational and productive. I wish all the baseball coaches and players well this upcoming season. I've been lucky enough to become friends with the Head Coach over the past 3 years. I love his approach and his commitment to the game and to the program at HHS. I'm sure his policies and expectations will be very clear to all involved. Coach B is first class!!!!:thumb::thumb:

HHS has made an excellent choice in their new coach. I'm sure he will bring much success for the baseball program. I know spring break has been a big issue for players on the baseball team, just curious what was the compromise?

Is there a compromise with Spring Football too? How could that work?

It was told to them upfront that they were permitted to go away for spring break knowing that it could ultimately cost them their spot on the field. They will be given a program to complete on the road, of throwing and conditioning and will be responsible for completing it. Both parents and players will sign the book stating that it has been completed. When the player returns, they will be worked back into the lineup at the coaches disgretion in regards to the needs of the team at that point. Also they will be the model teammate upon return.

I felt that it was as black and white as possible and very fair for everyone involved....
