Based on this being S. Charelston's first game of the year, EC will throw something at them that they may not be prepared for. I'll take EC by 10

Refer to post 39. Apparently not the first game. If they truly are a running team, this should be fun. Elliott County 92-75.

Are you serious? So what you are saying is that SC will win by 8 but they are not very good? What does that say about Elliott County? These are two good teams and should be an excellent matchup.

Don't know whether I am or not?? Most of us, including myself, have never seen South Charleston play. #1 in any state can't be too bad?? They were 25-2 last year and lost in the state 3A Championship game last year. They have 4 starters returning including leading scorer 6'3" Aaron Dobson who is a candidate for their equivalent of Mr. Basketball. All the starters are just coming off a December 6th 3A State Football Championship win over George Washington so that tells me they have some athletes of magnitude. They have probably 10 days of practice together; one game under their belt a 84-64 win last night over Huntington. Only have the Logan WVA vs. Scott County pre-season game to try to base anything on. Logan WVA is pre-season #5 in 3A. Scott County beat them by 10 (without Phares), but got beat by 2 points in the 2d half. Logan being a more rural smaller school (just moved up from 2A this season) is probably not as athletic as S. Charleston. Logan had a nice team, but would probably be ranked around 25-35 in the state of Kentucky. Just taking a stab and betting that South Charleston would be a Top 20 team in KY, but probably not Top 10. Certainly won't know enough until about 9:15PM on Saturday night in Paris to make a judgment. If Elliott shoots a low percentage, S. Charleston shoots well, then yes a Top 20 team could beat them by 8-12 points or beat anybody else for that matter. Elliott though is playing well with 6 straight wins (including GRC & Madisonville) and show no signs of horrible shooting like the Rose Hill and at Mason lost last year. BOTTOM LINE--Haven't seen S. Charleston and therefore don't know what Elliott is up against......................................

South Charleston beat Huntington 84-64 tonight.

From the highlights it looks like SC likes to run.

I hope they do.

This should be a track meet in Paris Saturday Night.

For what it's worth, West Carter beat Huntington in a panorama in Grayson this year.

It adds a little more perspective, but the math against comparative opponents just doesn't work in HS or College basketball anymore unless you are trying to use it to your advantage or make your opinion/prediction stick.

But, thanks for the info as I didn't know West played an out of state team.

Huntington was winning until Huntington high took out their starters and West left their starters in....

This will be a great chance for Elliot to prove themselves to some of the doubters. Should be a great game. I'll take Elliot by 6.

Elliott by a bucket! ! ! !

Talked to a co-worker today, he watched the Huntington High (Patterson's, Mayo's old school) vs. South Charleston game last night. He said S.C. has got an athletic team that presses a lot, loves the trap. They've got a kid named Dobson (Dopson?) that is tough, extremely quick as most of the team is. They're not real big, but have got a lot of good athletes and get up and down.

He saw Elliott play last year, hasn't seen them this year, but seemed to think it would be a good matchup. He said S.C. was very physical and Elliott would have to rebound better than in the games he has saw in the past. He knows BB, so I took him at his word. Should be a good game, S.C. is ranked #1 in 3A (highest level in W.V.).

One thing about Elliott, it won't be the first time these kids have played top notch competition. I have a feeling they'll be ready.

What kind of height does SC have ?

He said 5'11" to 6'2" range was they're primary players. They had a decent sized kid that came off the bench, but looked young.

I'll also add (just remembered), apparently Huntington was playing without they're starting PG, and they turned the ball over a lot.

Searching the web I could find no player bigger than 6'3" Aaron Dobson who is their top player and leading scorer from last year at 17.5ppg. They return 4starters and the whole team is just coming off a 3A Football Championship win on December 6th. Everything I read what that at least 4 of the starters were integral parts of the football team. That tells me they have some very good athletes who are in the 5'11" to 6'3" range. Mostly a senior dominated team with the exception of Soph guard P. Henry who had 13 pts. against Huntington the other night and top reserve sophomore Josh Hudson who had 12 pts. in the 20 pt. win against Huntington. Dobson had 22 pts. the other night against Huntington. SC made the finals of 3A last year and finished at 25-2. Nickname is Black Eagles, colors orange, black, and white, enrollment about 1,150 students.

Thats sums up everything I heard today. He said they were very physical for a high school team which goes back to some of them probably being football players. He was impressed with the Dobson kid. Likes to take it to the hole. Hudson was probably the player with size he said came off the bench.

Elliott should come out ahead with 32 points better than SC.:D:D

I enjoy your humor Ms Liberty, but this game will be a tough one. The guy I work with really enjoys BB and has seen a lot of games. He said EC would be matched in quickness and would have to work on the boards. SC didn't shoot it that great, but really hit the boards on offense and scored a lot of transition baskets. Huntington was missing their best player for some reason according to fans at the game. PG.
