I just heard this on espn "winter baseball meetings update show". Buster Onley reported the tentative agreement was reached between the Yanks ans Sabathia ...7 year/ $161Mil !

 

 

Will you still feel that way in a couple of years when CC's 325 lbs. has messed up his knees and/or shoulder? I'm glad that the Yankees have found somewhere to dump the money that they were paying Moose and Giambi. So what Savior are we on now? Going back a bit either: Mussina, Randy Johnson, Abreu, Damon, A-Rod, Giambi, Clark, Boone, Pavano, Matsui--all these guys were supposed to put the Yankees back on top. What do they have in common? None of them have won a WS wearing Yankee Pinstripes. Personally I'm glad that the Yankees have invested $161 Million in CC. Let's see how this works out.

Anyone who didnt think the Yankees would just buy this guy doesnt pay much attention to baseball. This is another example of why I hate the Yankees.

Yeah, way to go Yanks. Another 150+ million dollar contract. That took some skill to land that one.. If anyone thinks this kinda stuff is good for baseball, it dead wrong. Baseball has taken a back seat to football and this is one of the reasons why. Baseball is no fun anymore because it's all about who has the most money.

I would argue that spending a lot of money doesn't neccesarily translate into championship success for the MLB. Check out the World Series results with the payrolls listed for this decade.

Out of the 18 teams in the World Series, 10 teams weren't in the top ten payrolls that year and 5 World Series winners weren't in the top ten either. So the majority of World Series participants didn't have a top ten payrolls. It may translate to more victories, but when it comes down to what really matters, money doesn't seem to be a factor. Let the teams continue to spend like they do, if it isn't spent wisely then it doesn't matter, and as you can see a lot of teams aren't spending wisely at all.

Not in my opinion and MLB, needs to correct these escalating salaries or this great game, will be left for the deep pockets and checkbook owners to compete.

 

The spotlight of the NY media, is a completely different circus. Learning to cope and handle, can be overwhelming to many. Be interesting to see, how the soft spoken Sabathia handles it.
