Garrard(2-1) hosts Burgin(2-0). Garrard lost a tough one at Anderson but rebounded with wins over Berea and Southwestern Pulaski. Burgin has blown away its first two opponents. With the game being in Lancaster its going to be hard for to Burgin to get a win. Garrard's defense has been good the past two games and they are getting warmed up offensivly. Agreed. I think this will be a big test for both teams. If Burgin is going to be a threat to win a district game, then they have to be able to beat Garrard. Garrard has two wins against one loss, but the wins have come against Berea and Southwestern. Burgin is probably better than both of those teams, so Garrard needs to be able to beat them.

 

By the way, this will be the 57th meeting between these two former-46th District rivals. Garrard leads the all-time series 52-4. Burgin won during the 1984-85 season, '86-87, '97-98 and 2003-04. The win in 1997 was the only win ever for Burgin in Lancaster.

Burgin better than Southwestern? I highly doubt that. I think if Garrard plays the way they did against Southwestern Friday night, then anyone playing Garrard County can look to have a test.

Folks... Burgin lost their BEST PLAYER to Mercer. Dumford no longer plays for them. Without Dumford they are average at best. Don does a great job with those guys but they are just undermatched really. Garrard wins this game but it really means nothing to be honest.

But if they lose it, then they can't be considered a top 10 team in the region and a possible threat to knock off Boyle or Lincoln in the district.

It's way too early to tell, but Burgin isn't a bad ball team. Garrard played well against Southwestern, but don't let your "toot your horn" victory be over a team that has lost 25 of its last 30 games. They'll have plenty of chances to get big time wins as the schedule moves along. Beating Burgin is a must, but it's not a given.
