I thought the same, that place was very dirty, I thought I would need a shot of penicillin after walking through. Plus I kept fearing the Feds would walk into the purse shops and bust them while my wife purchased her Kate Spade knockoffs.

 

China town might not be the place to eat, but it was worth seeing. It a part of New York. An interesting place to walk through.

 

We ate in the Italian section........so good!

 

ESPN Zone....expensive. I would rather spend my money doing something more "New York"

 

There is a Toys R Us with a ferris wheel inside. That was neat to see.

 

If you havent done so, plan some of your trip via the subway system. Grand Central Station is neat to see, and it is a great way to get from place to place. Wish we had a subway system around here.

China Town is very dirty but it's quite an experience. It's like the worlds largest flea market if you're into that kind of stuff. I liked it.

 

Time square at night is something you can't miss out on.

 

Try to get in the Cash Cab and win some money if you can. I know it's a Toyota van so look for it :lol:

 

Most importantly be careful. New York is a wonderful place but it's so dangerous.

 

I love New York. I've gone twice. It's always nice for 3 or 4 days but I could never live there.

Safest way to travel...

Where will you be staying and what airport are you flying into?

 

Go inside the World Financial Center to get a good look at Ground Zero. It's an awesome building in and of itself and the view is good as well because you really can't see Ground Zero from street level anymore. It's located right by Battery Park which is also very neat.

 

You should really check out the South Side Seaport one night or day. There are always some really cool ships docked there, street performers who are really good and a 3 story mall type of place with awesome shops and great places to eat. If you go down there, I would check out Wall St. as well before you go to the Seaport.

Don't be scared of the subway, it's much easier to navigate then you will first think. All you need is a good map with all of the stops and specific trains you want to be on and it is a piece of cake.

Thank you for all this info. That Seaport looks great. We are staying at my cousins house, he lives at Hastings on Hudson. It is Beautiful. We are flying into LaQuardia ( sp?). Loving the Idea of Cash Cab, I have never heard of it. Is it just random?

You definitely have to check out FAO Schwarz it is great aroud Christmas time. Times Square at night is absolutely beautiful. Also head to the Rockefeller Center and check out the infamous Christmas Tree.

I wet in the late 70's. I got to see Reggie Jackson play in Yankee Stadium. The Big Ball Park in the Bronx is a sight to see. We walked for what seemed like miles and my neck was sore the next morning from looking up at the buildings. No one has mentioned it but the Empire State Building is pretty cool!! I'll give you the same advice a trucker on the CB radio gave us(we drove) while we were on the road...he said dont take too big of a bite of the Big Apple because you might find a worm!!
