December 6, 200817 yr Other thread got me thinking. Why do you post in P&R?Why do you? Seriously, I enjoy a little "lively debate" and I'm interested in what makes people tick. It's nice to see others opinions on issues, those that agree and disagree with mine. I have to say, I get the feeling like I know people from this forum more than from any other. I know I have a tendency to sometimes hack people off, but I hope they also understand that just because I argue with them on here doesn't mean I don't have a great deal of respect for them and their opinion. The main list of characters that usually post on here are all good, honest, decent people that I truly believe if I met I'd easily become friends with them, regardless of what side of the aisle they are on. I honestly believe I'm a better person for having "met" all of you guys and gals on here and absolutely benefit from this forum because of you, and I mean each and every one of you. :thumb: Edited December 6, 200817 yr by Run To State
December 6, 200817 yr Author I post in P & R for a variety of reasons. My philosophy of life is that, as a Christian, we are made in God's image. In a way, I feel that God is similar to the God that Aristotle discovered- he is the Ultimate Standard of what is right and true. So, as we are to live to be "like God", it is that we are to constantly try to do what is right. (NOTE: one thing where I think that people get tripped up is thinking that the point of life is simply to go to Heaven- I think that is a minimalist attitude- we should search for Truth and look to attain it). Now, as for how it relates to P & R, I am constantly trying to find what is the right thing to believe and do. When I engage in any type of debate, I am opened up to new ideas and new perspectives. Hearing these can either A) make me realize that maybe the truest option is different than my own or B) strengthen my own beliefs. Either way, I am constantly trying to reach that God-like state of perfection. Also, I absolutely love to be called out by another poster (such as for hypocrisy). It is times like this that I really have to dig deep to explain why I believe what I believe- and if I can't find a good enough reason, then I have reevaluate my position. I feel that sometimes, posters ignore opportunities to examine their own beliefs by ignoring what someone different than them says. My problems with this forum come when the arguments stray away from things like this. We get into problems with name-calling, with intentional misinformation, and with people who are not open-minded- those who subscribe to one side or the other. I have been guilty of it before (a long time ago)- I have heard people from the other side say one thing, then I have gone to google and looked up arguments against it. However, when a large majority of people (from both sides of any debate) have chosen their positions out of desire for a label (such as conservative or non-Republican, IMO the two most popular), then no one cares about truth. The same holds true for people choosing their positions based on the opposite of another person (mainly Bush and Obama (ok, and rockmom too )). So the reason I post in P&R is to enlighten myself and enlighten others. P&R can be and has been great if we can stay away from all the so-called "talking points" and try to enrich ourselves with knowledge. I have learned a lot from this forum and look forward to learning more in the future.
December 7, 200817 yr I frankly could care less what the religious or political positions are of a poster. I would say I post in order to foster intelligent debate and to attack views that people have that are not logical. Secondarily, I do learn from a few of the posters.

December 7, 200817 yr Author Because I want to.... Then I guess the question is "Why do you want to post in P&R?" Great post! (Though I disagree with the importance that you place on Aristotle) Interesting. Why is that?
December 7, 200817 yr Then I guess the question is "Why do you want to post in P&R?" Because it gives me something to do....Seriously, I don't know why I need a reason...
December 7, 200817 yr Author Because it gives me something to do....Seriously, I don't know why I need a reason... Of course, you don't need a reason, I was just wondering. If you prefer to keep your reasoning private, that is OK as well. I just like to know people's motives for why they post what they post.

December 7, 200817 yr Author So you can call them out on it later right???? Of course. In all seriousness, I was beginning to wonder why I post in P&R so I wanted to see why everyone else was.
December 7, 200817 yr So you can call them out on it later right???? That's exactly what I was thinking...
December 8, 200817 yr As an atheist/libertarian I have a different "view" on things than most people. Figured it wouldn't hurt to share it...
December 8, 200817 yr Don't you mean to left the ship? I post in P&R for one reason and one reason only.................... To give Rockmom indigestion.
