Ryle 59 Oldham Co 54

Final from Oldham County

Ahern and Lamping hit late FTs to help seal the deal for the Raiders first win of the season.

Physical game.

Lamping gave some quality minutes in last night's game against Boone also. Very aggressive, physical player. Pretty darn good in football, too. :thumb:

I too figured Ryle might have won by a little more. Oldham isn't supposed to be that good this year are they?

No, from what i've read they arn't. But Gary Forrest always has his teams ready.

Ryle IMO will be up and down a lot this year. That's one thing that's killed them over the years is their inconsistent play.

This game had to rank as one of the poorest called games I have ever sat through. The refs did not make any bones about it. They were for Oldham. Ryle had them down by 10 at the begining of the 4th and the refs brought them back to life. A true homer.

8th region teams feel the same way when they go to the 9th region to play.

As poor as it was it still turned out for the best.

Ryle played a solid game tonight in a very physical contest. It was 7 on 5 down the stretch but the Raiders hung in there for the win. Kurt Russell played very well and McLeish and Coleman hit some big 3's. Nichols did a nice job inside and Ahern and Lamping hit free throws in the last 15 seconds to seal the deal. It was a good win for the Raiders.

I doubt Oldham would agree that the officials were "for Oldham"...the majority of fouls were called on the Colonels, Ryle shot more FTs, and the only players fouling out wore Blue and White...

I was there...I also felt the game was poorly called - but not in the sense Number 1 Fan seems to think. Too much was allowed to go on...however, the calls that were made were generally good. These two teams should have shot 100 FTs, though. As it was, Ryle shot (approx) 20 or so and Oldham shot 15 (exact). The only players to foul out were Oldham Co players...not very typical for a game called by "homers".

The Ryle fan section was very angry about the calls throughout.

This was a typical Oldham-Ryle game - down to the wire. Average margin of the last 9 games between these two teams is just 7 points...

Oldham is struggling from lack of experience - only one returnee who started all of last year - and lack of overall size. Seven players came from the football team and only recently began practicing. They'll get better. Eric Dunlap had a superb game, hitting a pair of threes and leading OC with 22 points. Brandon Mason, the 6'3" senior forced to play in with the Ryle trees, had a solid game with (unofficially) 13 points and 5 boards. He also went outside and dropped a pair of threes on Nichols, who didn't dare come out that far to challenge.

Ryle has the ability to contend in the 9th, IMO. Decent outside shooting, solid presence down low, and OK depth. Ahern handled the ball well. Nichols didn't start, but was the most effective on the inside. They need to feed him more! Coleman had the hot hand from the outside. Russell did a great job on the baseline.

Lamping really didn't play that much.

Amen Brother! 8th region teams always get shorted when playing with 9th region officials. Must be the ego's of some of those 9th region officials....
