Rowan County 62 Fleming County 53

Did you stop at BW's after the game?

Nope....I need to go soon though..I haven't been for a couple of weeks.

Most of the previews take the easy way out. They focus on the new coach (who is fanstastic, btw) and assume that he will be using young talent. But these previews aren't based in any sort of fact. It seems disrespectful to ignore the juniors and seniors on the Rowan squad, as many of these previews have done.

Nobody is ignoring these guys - they are simply stating the facts. The fact is, they are starting a freshman and the majority of the full roster are underclassmen. That's generally regarded as a younger team.

For the record, I lived in Rowan County for 10 years so I'm a Viking fan. I'm definately not trying to take any shots at the school or players.

No offense intended on my side either. I hope to see you at Rowan game later this year.

You're right that the full roster does include a lot of younger players. Coach Thacker suits up a veritable army for his varsity squad. But check out the box score from the game. Only one freshman and one sophomore played last night. The rest were juniors and seniors. The two leading scorers were a senior and a junior.

I can tell I'm not making much headway on this argument. All I can say is, come watch them play, and let's see who the leading scorers are by mid-January. You'll recognize me by the huge smile on my face.;)

It's called "bring them along" or "developing the young talent". Wouldn't be very smart to throw them in a varsity game to get physically beaten up by a physical FC team. As far as the preview argument goes, there was no reason to assume that a senior and a junior would get 23 and 18 pts. respectively in a varsity game. One had never scored that many in a JV game.

Does the Rowan BWs serve hors de ouveres like they do in Huntington?

^ They have appetizers, but I'm not sure whether I understand what you're meaning or not.

I was fishing with that question. Thought I spotted a muskie, just not of the Cave Run kind.

33-31 in rebounds; that's not exactly getting dominated. But they did get outshot, outhustled, and out coached, IMO.

Thanks for the stat, guess I was wrong.

It appeared that Rowan turned their rebounds into transition points, that's what I was getting at.

That district may be tougher to win than I thought. Panthers need to find a consistent scorer and get tougher mentally.

Fleming has some talent but as long as Brad Frazier is the coach they will not have any success. Rowan needs to beat some teams that are proven before they start crowing about having a good season. they beat Fleming early last season but still only managed to win 8 games. It is way to early to determine anything yet.

Hey, I agree entirely with what you say about Rowan County. They are still unproven.

My comments earlier this week, however, were simply my attempt to claim that columnists shouldn't write Rowan off before the season even begins! Except for the Ashland Independent, no one even bothered to mention any Rowan players by name or ask the coach who might make a difference.

For what is worth, I wish both Rowan and Fleming great seasons.

Let's not go pointing fingers just yet.

Fleming is young, Fraser is building this Junior class of his to be something great. They have enough talent, it's just a matter of time. If not this year, next year will be a good year for Fleming County boys basketball.

I think he will do fine at Fleming Co. as soon as his junior class comes around. They are very talented.
