What about Grant County? What type of team will they have?

I was only saying from the list there are several girls more deserving then she. The freshman from Anderson, the freshman and 8th grader from Shelby, the freshman from S Oldham. I know a lot of people that are saying the region is wide open are going to be shocked. AC, SC, and SO just reload and get going. Coaching, work ethic and the letters on their chest mean more for certain kids. That all I meant.

Curry4AD, I understand your point. I have not had the opportunity to see any of the freshmen or 8th graders play that you are talking about. It is easy for an underclassman to look pretty good when they have experienced players around them and are not the focus of teams to stop them. The tale tale sign is how these youngsters perform when they are the focal point.

 

As for Stith, she was the focal point and seem to do pretty decent last year as a junior. I think she averaged somewhere around 16 points and 6-7 rebounds per game. This is just my opinion. As Lunatic1 sometimes says, maybe I am just a HOMER!!!!

I agree. If you think the region is wide open you're going to be disapointed. Anderson, Simon, and Shelby are much better then the field. If anyone outside of those three wins the region I would be shocked. South and Oldham have OUTSIDE chances this season, but IMO would be a quite longshot to win.

Jones is a Senior and I believe Dixon is a Soph.

I agree with all. A list of girls, by a few coaches is just that, a list of girls. Any time you list you leave some off and add some iffies. How the girls on the list and not on the list respond is the true tale. I hope for a injury free season for ALL and let the cream rise.

I don't agree that this is the "wide-open" region it was last year, but it isn't as cut-and-dried as some would believe. SK, Shelby, and Anderson start the season off a few steps ahead of the others, but they all appear to be a bit down from last year...and youth will narrow the gap throughout the season.

 

That said, I guess I'm only sold on 5 teams right now as having a legitimate shot (in order):

 

Simon Kenton

Anderson County

Shelby County

Oldham County

South Oldham

Spencer brought everybody back from a team that was competitve last season. Let me tell you, Anderson and Shelby both want to avoid Spencer in the first round this season. If they (Spencer) are playing well and Anderson or Shelby is not, they COULD beat them. You haven't been able to say that in recent years.

 

But they will most likely miss out on the regional tournament again, and that is probably the biggest reason they are ranked so low. Put them in any other district in the region and they have a very good chance to make it out this season.

 

Trust me, Anderson and Shelby are not worried. They have bigger fish to fry.

Simon wont be better.

 

 

Conley and Farris and the big girl (cant think of her name) are big losses that their replacement players wont be able to replace (at least not with the same talent level). Plus the SK bench will be almost non-existent.

 

Anderson has to replace Milam, Gemmell, and Royalty. Those three (especially Milam) are going to be very hard to replace. If Brown can realize at least a portion of her massive potential, Anderson will be tough. She won't be the scorer that Milam was last year, but should be a better defender and rebounder. Anderson has no depth either, though. If any of the starters go down, Anderson could be in for a long year with their brutally tough out of region schedule.

 

 

Shelby will be down. They lost a lot more then Simon or Anderson, and really don't have the talent to just re-load this year. They will be competitive with Anderson and Simon, but probably won't be favored to beat either one.

They may not be, but Spencer could surprise a few teams this year and are at least capable of pulling a district upset. Not likely, mind you, but capable.
