The laws of the Old Testament were set up to help people get along. That was their purpose or "spirit" if you will. When the pharisees got on him for healing on the sabbath, he said, what is more important to keep the letter of the law or to do right by human beings? He then called them a brood of vipers because they focused on the law as a means of exclusion and not as a means of governing relationships so that people could get along.

And if they are thirsty, give them something to drink. This will be the same as piling burning coals on their heads. Don't let evil defeat you, but defeat evil with good. Did the Lord bring the death penalty on Cain? What about David? Moses? Paul? MOST IMPORTANTLY in direct response to Coach Bucket . . . It was the LAW OF THE LAND that a woman would be executed for committing adultery - the LAW. Jesus said, "let you who is without sin cast the first stone." Why did he not simply tell them to follow the law of the land? I imagine MY SAVIOR would say today . . . "Let you who are without sin throw the first switch, or push the first syringe"
November 23, 200817 yr Leviticus 24:17 The LORD said to Moses "If anyone takes the life of a Human being, he must be put to DEATH". verse 19 "if anyone injures his neighbor, what ever he did must be done to him, fracture for fracture, eye for an eye, tooth for tooth, as he has injured he also must be injured. 21 Who ever kills an animal must make restitution, but whoever killed a man must be put to death. You must have the same law for an alien or a native. I am the LORD your God". What he is saying is the penalty must fit the crime, not exceed it. An actual eye/tooth wasn't meant to be used. Jesus was making sure that a man wouldn't do this on his own with out a fair trial. Kinda like he got. Ace remember the nature of this crime. When the man's knife broke as he was using it, he went to get another one. Thats why you have 38 men on "death row" in your "sinful state". This crime rates why way there in the nature. I will ask the Court System to keep working and if there is a Job vacancy to push the switch to the electric chair or they need someone to push a syringe then SIGN ME UP. Romans 13:8ff this is right after the scripture you quote on doing what the government says to do . . . Let love be your oly debt! If you love others, you have done all that the Law demands. In the Law there are an commands, such as "be faithful in marriage. Do not murder. Do not steal. Do not want what belogs to others" But all these are summed up in the comand that says "love others as much as you love yourself." no one who loves others will harm them. So love is all that the law demands.

You either go by what the bible says or you don't. You don't pick and choose the biblical arguements that fit your cause.

Do you not believe that there are any unjust laws? Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, were all heads of their government and Hitler was put there throught the election process. Were the citizens of those countries to sit quietly by and follow the law?
November 23, 200817 yr Jesus quoted from my passage. Eye/Tooth Jesus worked on the Sabbath, so he OKed for it to happen. Murder, he didn't change, just if you get you coat/shirt/pants stolen or your cheek slapped. Jesus brought a new law, but some things in the Old Testament applies today. We don't slaughter animals on the altar for forgiveness of sins. This also applies to the thead topic.
