November 18, 200817 yr Why would he be itching to get out? He had the best year of his career here. He wanted to get paid bottom line. It has nothing to do with wanting to stay or go. Whatever. I'm not arguing the fact that he wanted to get paid. So would I. But to think that , once again-all things equal, he'd want to stay here is silly. He has a better chance to compete in that division. I see no movement by the Reds to pretend to get better yet, do you? I know it's early, but I can't blame him for leaving.
November 18, 200817 yr I can see you point but to say he wanted to leave when you have no facts or proof of any kind just doesn't make that much sense. The Reds are in better shape then the Giants IMO.

Nor do I have any flight logs or phone records.
November 18, 200817 yr Affeldt was born in Phoenix, so he might prefer to be on the west coast and in the same division of his hometown team. His family may still be there. And $4M is a good chunk for a lefty specialist/setup man/middle reliever ... the Giants aren't going to be good for a while, but this might be the biggest contract Affeldt will get in his career. He may as well cash in while he can.
November 18, 200817 yr Affelt is the only player to be signed so far. So are you telling me that you expect big things this offseason? Or maybe they will compete in 09?
November 18, 200817 yr ^ No I don't expect big things at all. There isn't anything big to get. So how much longer do we wait?
November 18, 200817 yr Gee, it's only Nov. 18 ... Nov. going on a decade of losing. Going on two decades of no playoffs. Guess that's ok with you.

Guess that's ok with you.I'm a Cubs fan ... it's plenty fine with me, especially the hiring of Dusty. Jocketty didn't take over the baseball operation until April, but the man has a track record of success. Give the guy some time to do his work. He ain't going to put together a World Series team overnight.

I think I had this same exact conversation 2 or 3 years ago with someone on here. Oh well here's to aspiring to .500:dancingpa
November 18, 200817 yr Mal, why are you always so negative? I wish that we could have kept Affeldt, but no way the Reds are going to pay him $4 million per year. I have always like Affeldt and thought he did a great job this year.
