If he becomes a team player he'll be great.. With Summit View it was mainly sit back and watch him dominate..

 

That's what I heard. Basically him and Jared Swanson were the team.

 

He'll get a reality check real quick though and learn he's going to have to become a team player if he wants to get in this year with Riley, Herndon, Johnson Brothers, Arnold, D. Johnson, Housley, and Pittman all ahead of him. I'd say he sees some time this year but doubt Henley uses him in key moments.

 

Hopefully by the end of the year he's progressed enough to give Holmes another solid option off the bench for their post season run.

Add 8th graders Darrell Hicks - Shelby County

and Larry Morton - Lexington Paul Dunbar.

 

And for what it's worth I think Monroe is the only one of the 8th graders that wasn't held back a year. To me that doesn't really matter. You are going to be playing against older players anyway up to 5 years difference in some cases. If you want to get better at your skills and the game you need to play against tougher and older kids anyway!:thumb:

 

Mclendon wasn't held back either if I'm not mistaken.

I've also heard Brandon Hatton was playing JV/V for Dixie as a 7th grader..

 

Is dixie that bad in grades ten through twelve that they have to bring up a held back 7th grader. I mean come on folks, they have one of the largest enrollments in northern Kentucky. With that said, hatton is a very good player as I dropped his name two years ago when he was a true 6th grader. I think kids being moved up can only benefit from experience as the practices are much more intense and you only get better by playing against better. I have watched many of these kids play aau ball the last few years so it should be fun to see who gets better.

I believe Summit View was the reason but did not remember the players name for sure, but I thought it was McClendon. I know it should be in a different thread but match ages and then compare skills.

I think you guys are way off base about this kid. From what I seen from this kid he was a big team player at Summit View and in AAU ball. Christian will be 14 at the start of his 9th grade year,so he is not much older then most of the kids he plays against.

It wasn't Mcclendon, it was Pike from Dixie who played 7th grade two years in a row.That was the problem with Boone and Kenton county schools,Mcclendon had nothing to do with it.

As long as they are eligible per KHSAA rules to play their senior season can anyone be considered a holdback?

 

Parents make decisons for the benefit of their children all the time why should this one be viewed any differently?

I agree, I didnt see anything negative out of this kid while he was playing against our boys. I hope he stays in school and has a flourishing HS career. I thought he was the most fundamental rebounder in AAU 2 yrs ago while playing for the Tar Heels. At that point they were a very small team and he was their big man. I would say he was still 2 inches shorter than most of the opponents big men. He would not be denied and boxed out very well. Pouncy might get a bad rap for yelling the entire game while coaching but he teaches those kids fundamentals and gives them the green light to play and I like that.

I haven't see Mclendon since probably his 4th or 5th grade year but when I did see him I felt like he was a very fundamental player.

 

He'll benefit playing up though. He will get to play his true guard position.

NO. He is older than the main sophmore peer group. Good kid, but when he was in 8th grade it was kind of silly when the paper would say EIGHT grader Robbie Stenzel did this or that... I'm glad for the most part it has died down, but there was alot of laughing behind the back on that one.
