2 teams per district

Is there any sport in Kentucky that every school that fields a team doesn't make the playoffs or some type of post season meet?

Why all of the complaints about football?

Because the season is way to long.

What about just letting the top two ranked teams in each class play in the state championships and do away with playoffs altogether. It works so well in college.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I agree completely. There should just be two teams advancing in each district. This is especially true now that we've spread the wealth out across (a ridiculous) six classes.

This season, you have teams like winless Glasgow, Clinton County (having won no district games) at 1-9, McCreary Central (needing only to edge a winless team to advance) at 4-6. In this year's playoffs, there are 69 teams with a losing record; and over a dozen of those have won less than two games. Making it so easy to get into the playoffs just diminishes the sense of accomplishment, and gives some teams nothing to strive for.

First I would like to give some props to Madison Southern who didn't win a game this year but plays in a very tough district and also played a very tough non-district schedule. They are a very good team who had some bad luck this year. Keep working hard M.S. you will be back in the thick of things very soon I am sure.

As for McCreary Central, we were 4-3 when we lost Watts (last years district player of the year). Then we lost one of our top 2 recievers and a game after that we lost our tailback not to mention losing our # one offensive and defensive linemen to a torn ACL in the 1st quarter of the M.S. game. In all, we have been playing without 11 injured players 5 starters which equaled 10 positions and 90% of our scoring. Without the injury bug I am certain we would have been 5-5 and possibly 6-4 and the early loss to W-burg who is 10-0 came down to us fumbling late in the 4th quarter while driving for the tieing TD. I am not making excuses because this is all football and you have to play through these things. With only 4 seniors this season will only make us stronger in the future. However, if you take the best lineman, starting QB, TB and one of the top 2 receivers off of any team in KY (which accounted for 90% of the scoring) and that team wouldn't be nearly as competitive and I don't care what team it is. So, throwing a shot at McCreary who has played very hard to earn their way into the playoffs was totally un-called for and a little on the "I don't know much of what I am talking about" side. With that being said, after several of these players have been out for some time and following our off week we are starting to get some of our guys back. If we get everyone back by Friday (with the exception of our lineman who had major knee surgery) we will definately have a chance to win our 1st round playoff game against a very very good Boyd Co team and I did say a chance. I guess we will have to wait until Friday to see if we can be a threat as a # 4 seed.

Found this from a post I made last year after week one of the playoffs, when the same complaints were being made about four teams from each district getting in the playoffs...

3 #4 seeds won on the road over the #1's last night.

16 #3 seeds won on the road over the #2's last night.

( I don't think these teams think it was a boring week)

27 games were decided by less than 16 point (2 TD's + Conv) last night with many other games being that close late in the second half, before on team pulled away.

It doesn't hurt anything allowing these extra teams in the playoffs.

Dont forget we are also a state that lets ALL basketball teams play in the post season tournament.

Don't forget, ALL basketball teams play in the same post season tournament, not SIX different ones.

All of the above are able to compete multiple times in a week, thus making your point moot unless you want to adopt a Tuesday, Friday format for the football playoffs. Personally, I'm all for that. Conner High School played twice in two days, so it isn't impossible.

Except for track and cross country, all the above sports compete for ONE state championship (track and cross country compete for three). If you want to lump football in with the rest of the state tournaments and play for ONE or even THREE titles, I'm all in.

It doesn't hurt anything allowing these extra teams in the playoffs. As far as hurting basketball, please.......the last few weeks only the very best football teams are still going by Thanksgiving. After this Friday over half of the schools in the state will not have to worry about football anymore this year, after next week over 75% are done with football. I just don't buy that this is hurting basketball at all.

Here's the thing. Ohio, a state that I'm guessing most on here will argee is a pretty good football state, has 48 teams in six classes playing this weekend. Kentucky has 192.

This is why I have commented several times to just go ahead and let the 31 teams that are out of the playoffs, in and have a state tournament. It would only add one round to the playoffs.

I have argued for this as well.

In fact, I would take it a step further and have the regional playoffs a blind draw. It might match the top 2 ranked teams in the region against in the first round or it might not. If it did, in theory, you would have to beat that team in the first three rounds anyway, why not in the first round?

The benefit would be to free teams from having to play a district schedule, something teams with bad districts would benenfit from and, even more importantly, eliminate poorly attended long distance district games.

So, what's your point? Ahia isn't the end all in everything, even though lot on here do seem to have a lot of OHIO envy.

I tried really hard to make all of my points very simply, but I'll break it down even more for you.

Kentucky's football playoff and class system is broken, and badly needs an overhaul.

I think it's an issue because of time. On all of the above sports with the exception of football, you can have multiple teams compete several times at the same venue in the same day. That's not an option with football. The scheduling alone for the playoffs would be a headache. You'd add at least 2 more weeks to the playoffs which this year would move Championship weekend to 12/26 and 27!

Also, with the above sports you can play back to back days, with football you can't.
