It was stated in the St. X/CCH thread that the Senior QB should have started, if for no other reason than because he was a Senior. Regardless if the coach thought the Junior was better.

 

So my question is:

 

What schools start all of their Seniors on Senior Day? If any!

I don't know of any schools that start all their seniors on Senior Night - I'm sure there are some - but the schools in my area that I'm familiar with do all try to get their seniors extra time that night, along with the usual pre-game recognitions...

CCH had a totally different issue. They sat the senior that had started the last three weeks and then proceeded to put that senior in when the score was 56-0 in the 4th quarter... thoughts?

Would it have better if the SR didn't get in at all?

I know at most schools they start as many seniors as possible and get them in within the first few minutes/series of the game to make sure they receive the recognition they deserve for all of the hardwork and contributions they've made to the school and program, along with their family over their 4 years there.

 

I don't know of any coaches who don't start a senior though who had originally been their starter......and on top of that tell them just minutes before the game they wouldn't be starting after he had taken ALL of the pre game snaps.

This situation seems cold, callous, and unfair to me.

The junior QB went in, three 2 INT and 2 fumbles, and it upset ALOT of people that the SENIOR QB not only didn't start but was thrown in at the end and told minutes before the game began.

 

 

As for other schools, most that I know of start their seniors, and let them get some play and then start subbing in if they aren't a true starter. If there were playoff implications or this were a game that meant anything, things would be different, but the game in question meant nothing in the grand scheme of things.

I am talking in general, because I have lived all over the US. [Went to highschool in SC.] I have not seen a school that did not start their seniors on Senior Day. I will say I am speaking more in terms of basketball since that is more what I saw, but even in football the times I have seen "Senior Days" it was seniors that began the game.

 

 

On a side note, I just read an article that said that if Isler is not back next week, more than likely Young will be back under center. It was not a direct quote from Brossart himself, but the reporter said it right before a Brossart quote. Just a shame that the only game you DON'T start him is his Senior Day. for a 56-0 loss, I'd say it wasn't worth it.

Highlands does NOT start seniors just because it is senior night. I have never know a school that does. That does not mean there isn't a school that is out there that does, I just have never noticed one.

In some instances a team may have 30 or more seniors & it would be impossible to start them all. However, you could let all the seniors go out on the field as a honary captain at the coin toss.

With regular starting QB senior Zach Isler still banged up after an injury he suffered against Beechwood on Oct. 2, Brossart will probably go with Young under center next week.

 

“If this was a win-at-all-costs game it would’ve been different,” Brossart said. “I think (Erpenbeck) deserved that opportunity, and I know it’s hard on Matt Young – Matt’s a great kid – I thought (Erpenbeck) at least deserved one game where he could go out there and start.”

"senior day" because the Coach wanted to give the junior a start? Why not start the senior, then insert the junior later in the game if it was so important to give the Junior some snaps? So much for starting your best players in every game, no matter what, and what have you done to the seniors confidence in himself or the seniors confidence in his coach!

Also, I do think it is strange that public bashing, airing dirty laundry, and being negative to a coach at a school were great pride is taken in the motto "with a spirit that will never die," seems to be acceptable. I think it would be a time to set an example for the students and players to come together as a school, football program, boosters, parents, and supporters and try to resolve the issues internally. There are a lot of great people and supporters in place and things will turn around soon I am sure.
