Obama's First Speech

Featured Replies

I thought he said at least one HUGE thing of substance, when he said regarding his tax plan:

"I've said all along 95% of the working Americans will pay less taxes under my plan"

Note the addition of the word "working" to his spiel--Not 95% of Americans, as in his campaign mode, but "working" Americans, as in taxpayers. Could this spell the end to his handout promises for the appx. 35-40% who pay no income taxes or don't work, but thought they'd be getting rebate checks every year under his "Robin Hood Plan" he was elected on??

If you missed the word working during the campaign, you weren't listening. It was there from the beginning.

You are giving Obama too much credit here. "Working Americans" does not equate to "Americans who work and pay federal income taxes."

Checks will be sent to Americans who already receive an income tax refund that exceeds the amount of income taxes paid. Obama inserted the work requirement late in the campaign after McCain rightly pointed out that many of Obama's so-called tax cuts will be welfare payments. That has not and will not change.

Democrats rely heavily on redistribution of income from working Americans to unemployed and under employed Americans and that will not change. It is the only way that their candidates can get elected in many areas of the country. Ending subsidies to those who pay no federal income taxes would effectively end Democrats' stranglehold on power in our nation's urban areas.

No, it was not there from the beginning - at least not consistently. Obama inserted the requirement after McCain and Palin began describing Obama's proposed "tax cuts" as welfare payments.
Did you not hear the seance comment by Obama, refering to Nancy Reagan? He actually meant Hillary.
He obviously did not mean Hillary. It was a clear shot at Nancy Reagan's expense.
Very good speech in my opinion. It is so refreshing to listen to a President (elect) who actually knows what he's saying. He used the word bipartisan more than once and it seems very important to him.

If you get through the hmmms, ummms and the like. Give him a script and he is very good. Ask him to speak off the cuff and he struggles.

Andrew Breitbart registered the domain uhbama.com. I wish I had thought of it first.

Yes I heard it, that's why I brought up the seance with the  behind it.

I agree totally. Not a very classy move IMO.

That didn't seem to be the case during the debates.

Actually he did it alot.

His supporters are so doe-eyed around him, they just do not notice it.

Exactly. Everyone likes to overlook that. I even pointed it out in debate threads, but strangely, everyone was quiet about it.

I assume that you have the transcript to prove it?

I sit at home and type up transcripts just for the sake of proving such things.:sssh:;)

The transcripts were available after every debate. I didn't hear the "hmmmm"s and "ohmmmmm"s that you say you did. You call us followers "doe-eyed" about not hearing it. I'm asking you to prove yourself.

How about in the future in unscripted interviews you just look to see how many times he hmms and ohmmms.

He is still a better speaker than W but he does hmmm and ommmm alot.
