Should there be national guidelines for voting for national offices?

Featured Replies

Depending on where you live, you might have had a month to vote, 12 hours, polls closing at 7:00 PM, 7:30 PM, 8:00 PM.

IS it fair for one state to give their citizens an option to show up and vote the same day while another has to do that a month before.

For Presidential, should we have guidelines that are the same across the country?

I think that we should let the state's keep their right to decide how their elections are conducted.

:thumb: The federal government has already usurped too many state and local rights.

I think early voting should be allowed everywhere.

I disagree. During a presidential election, there should be one standard for voting for that position.

1. Election day is just that, a specific day to vote. No early voting, no voting on a different day, etc.

2. You want to vote, you must have a picture ID issued by a state or national agency.

3. Absentee ballots are for those who truly can't be in their precinct on election day. College students, military, people working outside of the country. Most other reasons, like I'm on vacation, it comes down to priorities. Which is more important? Your vote or your vacation?

4. Finally, all precincts must use the same voting system. I'd suggest the one Kentucky has been using for at least 30 years.

That's the system I would prefer. But I believe that this is a right the states should have.

It should be a federal law that a photo ID must be presented in order to vote.

I disagree. It isn't a state election. It is to elect a federal position and the feds should issue one set of rules that everyone goes by. This would be for President/Vice President only.

I think there should be an IQ/civics test. Then your vote should be weighted according to your score.

Yes m'Lord.

Actually, it is a state election. Each state selects its electors and each state has its own rules governing how elections are run.

If the federal government could wave a magic wand and dictate every aspect of state elections, think of how easy it would be for Democrats to eliminate photo ID requirements, to mandate same day registration and voting, and to make it easier for thugs like those employed by ACORN to steal elections. Turning that much authority over to the federal government would be extremely dangerous, IMO.
