November 5, 200817 yr Same way they called South Carolina for McCain when Obama was leading...I haven't figured it out personally. It's based off of what counties have been reported, and what the actual results of those counties are to the exit polls from those counties...

November 5, 200817 yr An exit poll is a poll conducted right outside the voting booth. They are used to give the campaigns and the networks an idea of how the voting turned out in that particular county and are compared to previous year's results as well as the actual results from those counties.
