Are bye weeks a good thing or a bad thing? Does it help your team or seem to hurt them?

I believe the arguments for a bye week is that it gives teams a break and time to get players healthy. They also allow more flexibility in scheduling a 10 game season. The arguments against them are that they extend the season by an extra week and they can hurt the momentum of a team who is doing well. Although I guess the reverse might be true and a week off could help turn a team’s season around if things were going bad before the week off.

It hasn't been good for Fort Campbell. Their offense was rolling going into the bye week, averaging 52.5 points a game. They are averaging 24.0 in the two games since. When a team is playing well, the bye week can hurt. If a team is struggling or banged up, it can come at a good time. It depends on the situation.

I prefer we have the open week after the 10th game and the week before the playoffs. That way you play 10 games and have a week off to prepare for the playoffs. I know the argument can be made that you can take week 10 off and have that, but when you have a bye week you are sometimes temped to use it if their is a scheduling conflict.

I prefer the 10 games then off week, then start the playoffs.

I agree Ram, now since the "intra-district" playoff format was scrapped, you're 1st round playoff opponent will be someone you most likely haven't seen. An extra week of prep would be good for an unfamiliar playoff opponent.

That was the main reason I’m asking the question is because Fort Campbell has seemed to struggle offensively since their bye week. Granted they have won their two games since the bye week against two good opponents, Owensboro Catholic and Trigg County, but the offense doesn’t seem to be clicking like they were prior to the week off. A prime example was against Owensboro Catholic when Ft Campbell had 135 yards in penalties, many of which were on offense and special teams. Although, they had far fewer penalties against Trigg, the offense didn’t really start to click until late in the 3rd quarter. The defense hasn’t really been affected, they continue to play outstanding. Of course another contributing factor could be that defenses are scheming better against FCs offense and other teams are getting better on defense. I’m optimistic that FC is getting back to their pre-bye week rhythm on offense after the 4th quarter against Trigg and I think Franklin-Simpson will be a big challenge for FCs defense so this is probably a good measuring stick game going into the playoffs.

To rest injuries, yes, but generally I'd say it's an interruption that the Coaches don't care about

A bye is good depending on when you use it. Taking the finally week off maybe good or maybe bad. It can give you time to heal and prepare. Or it can be a momentum breaker, If a team is hot and takes a week off it may hurt them.

The Falcons are fine - both games combined score was 48 - 9. When FC plays O Cath or Trigg it is a big rivalry game. Trigg played way above their ability on Friday and still didn't score a TD until mid-4th quarter. They brought their best game and hung with the Falcons for a half, but then reality started to take over. The O Cath game probably 50% of the penalties were legit. The others, well you know my feelings.

Every game is not going to be pretty, but the Falcons have won 22 in a row and prior to the 4th quarter Friday hadn't given up a TD since September 26. I think the bye was good for FC, which had some nicked up players that needed the rest. The Falcons are heading into the final week with a healthy club. Having Raquan Durrante back from his injury at Tilghman is huge. I look for a solid game against Franklin-Simpson.

I'm split about the bye week, we (SK) have a bye week this week, kind of strange since it's the last week of the season but it does allow are coaches to get a first hand look at Lafayette. The bad news is Lafayette plays Trinity, so it may be hard to evaluate the Generals based on how good the Rocks are.

I'm in favor of the bye week. And I like the flexibility of allowing the coach to decide where in the season he wants it.
