I honestly don't think Coupon21 was trying to say anything more than Lyle was not getting the ball much at all. I took it that Coup was implying that for GC's offense to do anything, they need to open up the passing game by running Lyle more. How many touches did he have prior to the Lawrence Co. game? If you use him as a feature back, I promise you, someone will be open off play action.

For a sophmore I think he has had lots of chances to run the ball. Lyle is indeed a good player and I for one hope to see alot more from him. But I still believe the coaching staff finds one player and forgets that they have a whole team. As far as touches prior to the Lawrence Co game I have never seen Sammons use a sophmore as much as he has Lyle this year. My point in all of this is simply not about Lyle as much as use ALL the talent not just one.

Spread the wealth.... Use all the talent, a good run game makes a good passing game, a good passing game opens the run up and defense wins ball games, period.

GCHS needs to run the ball more as they did this past week, as I stated earlier, it opens the passing game up and vice versa, that has been our issue this year, we haven't put it on the ground in order to compliment the passing game, our running backs need to touch the ball 20 - 25 times a game in order to open up the passing game as sideline doc stated, it will open up play action and various other passing options. We have some play makers, Eric Craft (of course), Corey Lyle, Smitty and Terry Waugh, they make things happen when they touch the ball and we need to spread it around to those that are play makers both on the ground and in the air.

Lyle was averaging approximately 8 touches a game running the ball, he touched it 23 times Friday night.

You are right and when we get to the endzone after running the ball the whole way down the field we do not need to pass. I believe if it is working then stick with it.It seems every time we do good at running the ball the coach will call a pass play and it will either get intercepted or fumbled or something to that effect. Larwence Co was a perfect example of what I'm talking about we ran the ball all the way and then got with in a few yards of the goal line and here we go again lets pass! The score should have been alot higher on this game if we would have kept the ball on the ground. I believe there was something like 2 or 3 interceptions and Im not sure how many fumbles,yes I know it was raining but this has been this way all year with the sun shinning.

Lyle has touched the ball 8.75 times per game with 380 yards with 70 touches which averages to 5.43 yards per carry in 8 games and 21 of those touches were in the LC game.

All I was saying was. When you have a good running back he needs to touch the ball regardless of his grade. Did the vikings say lets only give Adrian Peterson the ball 8 times a game because he was a rookie? Lyle is averaging 5 yards a carry. Im no math major but I'm pretty sure that two 5 yrd runs equal a first down. I dont care if he is in the 6th grade, Freshman, Sophomore, Senior. The kid should touch the ball alot more.

What is the problem with Lewis Co. this year? I watched L.C.'s 6th grade team Saturday, it looks like they have some talent coming. How is the rest of the middle school?

 

Like I said, the interest has always been there at the grade school level and somewhat at the middle school level. The numbers fall in half as the freshman year begins. I have seen a 7th grade class with 32 players, of those 32 there may have been 12 of them play this yr as seniors. They just wont play, you have a few that are hard core and it shows, the others will not put out the effort, hard work and dedication to make the program.
