The first thing they need to do is take politics out of it. Coach Wooten just cut a senior player, great kid, and one of the best returning players. Sad day for this family and the program.

The second thing is they need to do is stop scrimmaging people from the community and start working on set practices more.

They also need to secure experienced/qualified coaches. None on the staff right now have head varsity experience and only limited middle school/freshmen experience including the head coach. They really need someone in there to help guide them more.

Speed and size are issues, don't know what to say about that.

The kids on the team are good kids and are willing to work. Just have to wait and see what happens.

Isn't scrimmaging vs. people from the community considered an actual scrimmage?

Who is on the coaching staff? Anyone returning from last years staff?

Why in the world would you cut a senior that has played before?

Davey Wooten, the freshmen coach, now varsity coach is the only returning coach from last year. The other new coaches are Trey Parsons (trained CD, great guy just not experienced in game/practice coaching) and Max Hunter.

Yes it is actually a KHSAA violation from what I have always been told.

Its not an organized scrimmage. It is an open gym and anyone can play, but it is usually just current and former players.

The parents need to leave Coach Wooten alone, and let him do the job. He will be successful if this happens.

Trey Parsons is a a GIFT for the Boyd program! His knowledge and work ethic will spread like wild fire throughout the program. Give this staff time and they will get results. I don't know the circumstances with the senior, but I can tell you that if you're trying to build a program, a senior from a previous coach can sometimes hinder what the new staff is trying to accomplish. Again, I do not know why just offering my opionion.

It is not the fault of the senior the BC program has had 3 coaches in 3 years. His presence will be missed as Mr. Wooten looks down the bench to put someone in. The player was a "team player, great kid" , not a hinderance. He also was one of the few returning players with varsity playing experience.

I do believe Trey has much to offer, he will just have to learn on the job about ballgame coaching which is much different than individual instruction or conditioning. This will take time. Once again BC is in the "rebuilding" stage. For the sake of all I hope it goes well.

Someone has got to get these kids to come out and play, It makes no sense how a school as big as Boyd County can not compete. This is with all sports at BC, If something dont change it will be the same story every year.

Amen!!!!!!! Well said Tiny. This is as far down as I can remember BC sports being.

Just an observation, but it seems that Boyd has the same problem as some other schools in that the coaches from the major sports encourage kids to commit to that sport year around and it's hurting them overall.

I also don't sense the administration at Boyd is really committed to the program, first they bring back Zorn who has good years in the past but everyone knew was at the end of his career, and then they hire Wooten. Don't know Wooten personally, but have seen his freshman teams play and I'm not sure he's ready to be a program leader, but I could be wrong.

Its going to take coaches to get in the hallways of the school and encourage the kids to come out and play, and a good point about the administration.
