I can really only speak for SK when I was there as far as b-ball is concerned, but during that time period the key guys on the b-ball team were definitely not football players also. There were some fb players that maybe could've helped on the hardwood, but I definitely think some of the b-ball players could've helped out on the gridiron. Mostly on offense.

 

The situation at SK is a lot different than at Highlands. SK had 2 of their best football players that started or were in their top 6. Both Joseph & Jordan Nevels.

 

I agree that there are plenty of basketball players at every school who could contribute on the gridiron.

Here's a question...when's the last time a school won a basketball and football state championship in the same year, if ever? Or made the state championship in both?

None have ever won it in the same school year. Closest to that we have:

 

St. X - Won both in the 1962 Calendar Year (Basketball in 61/62 season, Football in 62/63 season)

 

Two schools were basketball champions and runners-up in football:

Shelby County - (77/78 School Year)

Hopkinsville - (84/85 School Year)

 

The online records for basketball no longer list the runners-up, so I couldn't check to see if there were any football champions and runners-up in basketball in the same year.
