Do you honestly think Elliot would have even made it to championship night had they had to defeat Lexcath earlier in the day like Holmes did? And had they defeated Lexcath do you honestly think they would have kept it close with Mason? I seriously doubt it. If anything Mason proved they were the far superior team against EC by being able to turn it up that much and outscore Elliot by 11 the last 3 mins to win the game. I'm not trying to down Elliot as they are one of the top teams in the state but they would need a VERY hot night from behind the arc to even be able to stay in the game with Holmes, SC, GRC, Manual, J'town to name a few. Also if we're going to compare scores didn't Elliot lose by 14 to Covcath? A team Holmes beat by an average of 10 points in all 3 meetings.

 

And Holmes did lose Henderson but here's the thing...they are in a process of reloading...not rebuilding. The addition of 6'2 Brandon Housely will offset the loss of Henderson. They also have two top 10 juniors in 6'6 Elijah Pittman and the best junior in ky in 6'5 Ricardo Johnson. Add 6' Riley who came in to the sweet 16 last year with the highest 3 pt fg % in the state combined with 6'5 J. Johnson who could start at pretty much any school in the state. Oh and don't forget they also have 6'6 soph Kevon Arnold who many recruiting services consider a top 20 player in the state for his class as well. Elliot is good but Elliot needs to earn their respect before they start comparing themselves to the David's in the state. Moral victories don't count last time I checked..Knock off a top 20 team then people will start recognizing them and giving them credit where credit is due.

 

Guess we really won't know until March in Rupp. While Holmes is playing all those Top 20 teams, Elliott will be playing all those bottom 20 in the 16th region. I hope they get a chance to play Holmes in Rupp. If you all win then I will give the superior credit award where credit is due. If they blow Elliott out by 25 points I will still give credit where credit is due. If little tiny Elliott was to squeak one out then I also expect the same amount of respect and credit.

Debate won't be settled until 18-21 March. I rest my case until then.........

I don't think they have what it takes to bring home a kentucky state championship trophy.

Even if they don't get it this year they still have the same shot at it next year. They will only be losing one good senior in Housley. I think they will bring home atleast one state title in the next two years.

We shall see, a ton of things can happen between Wednesday and Saturday night during the tournament. With that being said, Scott County has a much tougher road during the regional tournament than what Holmes will face.

I can tell you one thing...the same thing was thought when Holmes played Lexcath in the state semi's last year and look what happened. :sssh:

RICO is the best player in the state IMO but 5vs5 they prob look better on paper. The matchup should be a dandy.

After thinking about it and looking at the match ups, SC isn't that much better at every position:

 

1. Riley v Manning/Ford- Riley being a senior and having probably a better outside shot I'd say he's a bit better than those two. He's very smart with the ball and you won't see him make many turnovers, if any. Adv-Holmes

 

2. Housely/D. Johnson v Guyn- Housely and D. Johnson are both great defenders who can jump out of the gym but neither are as big of a scoring threat as Guyn who can take over a game. ADV. Scott Co

 

3. J. Johnson v Jackson- JJ is probably the better defender of the two but Jackson has a better all around game and is more aggressive offensively. ADV-Scott Co

 

4. R. Johnson v Euton- Euton will be too slow to defend Rico and will end up in foul trouble trying to guard him out top. Adv- Holmes

 

5. Pittman v Phares- This is the key match up IMO. Phares is probably better down low but defensively he will struggle to guard Pittman out top and Pittman is probably a better inside/out player. I'd say this is probably the most even match up on the floor.
