Although Ashland has a stable of running backs who share the wealth, Rashard Carter has carried the ball 139 times for 1,016 yards…Simpson has 98 rushing attempts this season and has amassed 1,017 total yards. Russell lost that game 36 – 10.

I might add too, there is another opponent who lies ahead of Russell who can run the ball pretty well too....but that will be the topic of another thread.:sssh:

What are you doing Painter? I knew you would throw some Ashland stats on this thread:D You are slick

Russell needs to strenghten their non district games. Drop Boyd,Greenup, and Raceland. Add Ironton and some quality 4 or 5A teams. This would prepare them better for playoffs. And before anyone says Raceland shouldnt be dropped. Yes, this year, Raceland will give them a hand full, but most years , Russell will roll over Raceland.

Russell brings Ironton back next year.

Are you suggesting that it was a bad call? Another question is how do you think they won? If it is because SK scored at the end then you need to realize that SK had it won until about 20 seconds to go when Russell took the lead. I agree that it was a shame that one team had to lose, but that team was Russell.

No not at all, the call was absolutely right. It was just unfortunate. The player was on his way out of bounds to try and stop the clock and Foster and Jones had him wrapped up, when one of our younger guys came in to try and help out and grabbed hold of the mask.

Of course, I personally disagreed with the decision to do the squib kick and give SK the ball on their 40. But it was one of the most exciting games last year, if you like offense.

The only thing I would change is that he wasn't on his way out of bounds. That was the last play of the game and judging by the kid who caught the ball he would have definitely tried to turn it up before he would go out of bounds. But it was unfortunate for Russell.

What really blows my mind is how down you guys are on Coach McGlone and your team. Last I checked, you are 5-1 and ranked 3rd in 3A. I realize that you feel you are not as deep this year, but even the elite teams in the state (including Russell) cannot reload to the same caliber every year. I also think you guys are jumping the gun with regards to second guessing the play calling. Everyone and their brother has known what plays were coming and still couldn't stop it. Sometimes, no matter the play call, the other team is just better. Best I can tell it's only been once so far this year. I am glad you guys are as passionate about your team as I am for mine, but you guys appear ready to abandon ship and you have hardly left port! If and only if, you guys struggle with your remaining 3 games will I understand your current struggles. Until then, you have the tradition and the respect worthy of an elite team, imo.

I think people have the right to complain about the play calling. Its been going on for years. Now its just more obvious to people outside the program due to internet message boards.

To answer Ryan's question why Russell gets so much talent. It's because they have a very strong JFL and have for years. The kids are well coached from a young age and football is number 1 @ Russell. The kids like other sports but football is the heart and soul of the athletics in the Russell area. Ashland and Russell's JFL's are second to noone in the state.

Also sideline doc, who was it that hurt you all so bad last year? That kid maybe has not touched the ball 40 times this year. I don't know if they are saving it for when the games get tougher or what. We will see.
