I think they should keep playing. As you said it's a unique matchup and a true rivalry. I can remember when it was lopsided the other way. Ft Knox should e able to be competitive again, but right now its all ft Campbell.

Do they still have free concessions at the game for the soldiers?

I think the soldiers get in free and they pay for their food while they are there. I went to a game earlier this year and you couldn't hear a thing....those soldiers were LOUD! Great atmosphere for a game. Good luck to both teams!

I read somewhere today that the Eagles have lost 35 of their last 36 games. Have not verified those numbers, but they are probably in the ballpark. Being a state power is probably not on the radar no matter what the coach's name is.

There is probably plenty of talent walking the halls of Ft. Knox HS that is not interested in playing for a losing program. To get that untapped talent on the team they need to schedule some games that can be won and build off the success. A winless program which schedules Danville and Ft. Campbell in back to back games is going to struggle to get maximum participation from all the available talent. I do hope the Coach can get the program back on track as you suggest he will.

They have no choice on scheduling Danville. It is a district game. And the Army Bowl is tradition which gives them very little leeway there also.

I think you have to give the new coaching staff the benefit of the doubt. If you look at what Fort Campbell’s record was before Coach Berner and after Coach Patterson you will see they were pretty bad. In the four years preceding Berner they went 5-35. Since Berner they are 73-11 with a state championship. Under Coach Jaggers, Fort Knox won three state championships and was runner-up in a fourth. My point is that Fort Knox has not always been a loosing program and has been a state power house before so to completely discount the difference a coaching staff change can make is inconsistent with recent history of both programs.

 

As far as Fort Knox’s scheduling, they have to play Danville and Bardstown because they are in their district. There aren’t a lot of 1A or 2A teams in the vicinity of Fort Knox that they can schedule. Outside of Knox is Hardin County and they are all 4A-6A. To the north are all of the Jefferson County/Louisville and Bullitt County programs that are for the most part larger programs. They do schedule Elizabethtown to the south, but even they are 3A. Most of the smaller programs are in the Eastern, Western, and Southern part of the state away from Louisville, Lexington, and the I65 corridor.
