I wouldn't pencil Estill in to beat Harlan Central, but I also think it's time for some of you guys to give Estill some props for how tough they played Breathitt, AT Breathitt.

I'll give you guys props. The Breathitt vs. Estill game was a hard nose battle. The backs Estill have run with their heads down and are very hard to tackle. I hope the game with Estill and Harlan Central is a good one and I think it will be.:fight:

I don't know if they thought they were that good or it was everyone telling them how good they were. I love seeing all the fan support, but they may have went overboard.

 

Harlan County has to learn how to beat a team the caliber of Breathitt. None of them have ever done it before. It's been a long time since a Harlan County team has beat anyone like Breathitt.

 

I was worried about the over hype from the fans. I don't think a lot of fans realized how good Breathitt would be.

 

As a player it is easy to get caught up in the hype. If I'm Larkey, I might want to say stop the tailgating, forget about the blow up helmet, and let's focus on football.

I agree. That tunnel missed I don't know how many tackles and the tailgaters couldn't get anything going on offense.

 

I've heard of a lot of reasons for losing a game, but an over zealous fan base is a new one on me. It's great to finally have such good support for our kids in Harlan County. Coach Larkey coaches football and the Bear Nation supports him and his team.:thumb:

 

This was a tough loss, but our kids are still gonna get the support they deserve. One loss doesn't make or break their season. They'll learn from this loss and hopefully have a spark when we see them play again.

I guess I might as well fess up..... I wore the wrong hat to the game. I know it was selfish of me, I didn't want to get my head wet and didn't wear my visor. So I'll take part of the blame. I'll wear it in the snow if needs be from now on. I try not to be superstitious but you're talking to a girl who once wore the same game socks for 6 straight weeks. They could stand up by themselves. :creepy:

Missed tackles and a lackluster offense is because of a lack of concentration. Players get caught up in the hype and lose focus. I think that is what happened.

 

In no way am I saying fans should not support their team 100%. That is why we have fans. But, these boys have never had this much support, and I know if I was playing, it would be easy to get caught up in it.

I don't think any support of our team is excessive this football team alone has brought Cawood, Evarts, and Cumberland fans together more than anything could have like HDE said. While I'm mentioning HDE I have to disagree with our fans not giving Breathitt respect, I as a fan as I have said many times I expect my Black Bears to win every time they take the field, if they don't win I don't leave at halftime and a lot of people left but a lot of people stayed in the cold rain. There was even a few fans in the parking lot tailgating umbrella in hand after the game because that's they way its been all season. As for the tailgating we have done it every game at it hasn't done anything but show our support and the helmet had these boys ready to play but Breathitt hadn't played up to expectations their first 4 games and decided to take it out on us. Too Bad. Bring on Powell County, Black Bear Nation will be there! Go Bears.

I was just using those two things as examples of how it's easy to get wrapped up in other things besides the actual game. I think you all read too much into what I was saying.

I made my brags also, that Harlan County Central would win. Guess I was wrong. If the bears don't win against a team like Breathit County in 3A, how will they fair in 5A. Just wondering, thought with them being a 5A they would surely beat BCC~Just wondering.

OK just a couple (few) of things...not just to you Ghost Rider...

 

There is no Central in Harlan County High School.

Those of us that know about football, did know how good Breathitt is.

HCHS was more banged up than what people realize...no excuses...

Without Blanton, we do not have the ability to throw the ball downfield as well, making us very one dimensional...and easy to defend.

I'm pretty sure Breathitt County can compete very well with most of the 5A teams in district next year.

This was the first "Big Stage" these kids have EVER played on. Breathitt sees this every weekend.

All of us were caught up in the hype, all of us have been humbled.

Bears have an off week to lick their wounds, and will play much better at Powell County.
