I don't see how you can pray for something to be while hoping that its not really. I don't pray for an end to the war despite wishing it to continue. I don't pray for my mom to live while hoping she dies. I don't pray for my son to start doing his homework without being told to while hoping he doesn't.

Her quote is cryptic. So I'll take her clarification of it at face value. She says she intended it to mean that we should pray that the troops were on a task from God, or, that we were doing the right thing, so to speak. That is quite a bit different than saying that they are on a task from God (knowing what God would do or want) and it, while odd, is acceptable.
