Prestonsburg 19 Lawrence Co 12

Featured Replies

Hang in there, Bulldawgs...These tough early games will pay dividends as the season unfolds. All reports I hear is LC is getting their program back in line with the tradition that the folks in Louisa are accustomed to.

I just cannot figure out why Lawrence County isnt winning more games then they are. Their losses get worse each week. The opponents get weaker each week on their schedule and they still lose. There is great athletes there and great support. Beats me.

Man do you watch football any? Prestonsburg is very good, Belfry? Are you kidding me they are loaded. Both of these teams Lawrence has played tougher than anytime last season. Coach Salmons has this team improving and they will be okay for district play.

Prestonsburg played horrible last night with 4 turnovers, they also had 4 starters out and 1 key reserve linemen out. Not trying to make excuses but this played a big difference in last nights game.

Seth Setser & Austin Gearheart did everything last night. Hats off to both!

BTW, whoever was running that clock was most definitely wanting the Dawgs of LC to win as they would not start the clock at all when they were driving, but Pburg's D held strong as they stopped LC on 4th down to put the game away.

I don't get what you are saying here. Are you implying that P-burg is a weak opponent. I don't think so. I think that they were lucky to play them that close.

I never said ALL their opponents are weak. I just said they play teams tough, then their schedule gets weaker each week, which means if they played Belfry that tough, then they should have won one of the last two.

By the way, Belfry then Sheldon Clark then Prestonsburg, I believe that is weaker in that order..you agree??:thumb:

Possibly true, but not to the degree where L'burg can be surprised or disappointed.

I watch a lot of football and have watched a lot of football in my years. You guys are completely missing the point. NO ONE on Lawrence County's schedule has been what you would consider WEAK, but the schedule has gotten WEAKER since playing Belfry, and Lawrence County played Belfry very tough. That being said, I figured they would beat Sheldon or P-Burg. Both those teams are tough, but Lawrence Co does have a TRADITION here too, and should be competing with those schools. If you are trying to say that Lawrence Co should not be held in the class of Sheldon and P-Burg from past years experiences, then you have not watched much football in the Past.

You're assuming Lawrence Co. should be as strong as the outcome of the Belfry game implies each following week, as if that close outcome meant Lawrence is almost as good as Belfry. That's simply not true. How do you know Lawrence wasn't playing wayyy over their heads that game ? Did Belfry play a sub-par game ? -OR- Is Belfry, Sheldon Clark, and P-burg simply closer in ability than you're implying ? :sssh:

If one used your logic, Sheldon Clark would hands down be the best of the three. But it doesn't work that way. One team can match up better/worse than another with personel and play style (not to mention the role dumb luck plays in a game). As an example, last week Sheldon Clark caught Lawrence Co. unprepared for the run out of an offensive spread (typically, the Cards run out of closed formations and throw from the spread). Things like that can cause what should be a close game, to be one-sided.

Not to be contrary, but no, Lawrence Co. has NOT been in the same class as Belfry, Sheldon Clark and P-burg for a few years.

However, the Bulldog's last 3 games shows the program is definately coming back. Next year, the team will start winning some of these games - look for it.

Congrats for a very improved team !!! :thumb:

I was very impressed with LC this year. So many young players. They appear to be on the right track to getting back to LC of old. Wish them the best of luck on their play-off run.

Sorry you probably should be in the same class as Sheldon Clark but not in with P-burg. LC has tradition but not as much as P-burg. LC has not had a winning season since when. Come on you should be happy that LC is in these ballgame and hope that this helps them get ready for Bell, Rockcastle and Knox. Because they haven't seen anything yet.

With such result is the past few games, one would have to assume the Bulldogs would be the odds on favorite to win there district. None of the other teams have shown any ablility to play with quality teams the way LC has. One still has to question the mental aspect it takes on a teams to start the season 0-4 even though it was against solid competition.

I believe that besides Highlands Lawrence was the winningest program in the state in the 90's. They had arguably one of the top 5 running backs in the history of the state and unarguably the best reciever ever in the state. They do not however have that elusive state title that so few schools actually have. So as far as tradition we believe ours is rich and we believe that we will get back to were we want to be. The majority of LC fans really understand what the program is going through and we appreciate these underclassmen that are out there right now taking their lumps and playing their heart out to get the program back to the top. The seniors we have are playing with all their ability but we all know that ability isn't enough. The underclassmen need experience and this year they are getting it. Winning or losing this has been the most enjoyable team to watch in years.

Absolutely on the mark... :thumb:

Lawrence Co. is rebuilding the right way - with correct fundamentals. It's obvious if you watch them. As long as players/coaches/fans don't get disheartened by the L's, the Bulldogs will be back.

Everyone needs to avoid comparing this team to the Dawgs of the late '90s. That group was the culmination of a lot of hard work for almost a decade in building the program. It isn't fair to the current team.

I believe that besides Highlands Lawrence was the winningest program in the state in the 90's.

From 1990-1999, Beechwood was the most successful football team in the state in wins with 126. Danville and Mayfield were close behind with 120 wins each. Following are the top

programs for the 90s decade (1990-99) in number of wins (min. 100): 1. Beechwood 126, t2. Danville 120 and Mayfield 120, 4. St. Xavier 115, 6. Bowling Green 114, 7. Highlands 112, 8. Bell Co 110 9. Pikeville 107, t10. Harrodsburg 103, Lawrence Co. 103 and Trinity (Louisville) 103

I think Lawrence will win their district. If they keep up playing the way that they have been, it could be an undefeated district season.
