‘Objectivist’ Writer: Trig Palin a Financial Burden Who Should Have Been Aborted

Featured Replies

I know that this is a very deep emotional thing for you, LBBC. However, take as step back from that just a second and I think you will see my point.

I did not equate the two lives at all. Your posts have "hinted to" a perceived hypocrisy of someone declaring themselves pro-choice due to a woman having the right to do what she wants with her own body and then being against legalized prostitution. I was just mentioning that someone that says that they are pro-life in being against ANY abortion would also be hypocritcal in supporting the death penalty. You can't be pro-LIFE and support the DEATH penalty. I guess you could be anti-abortion and support the death penalty though.

NO HINT!!!!!!!!! It is a hypocrisy.

But the difference is that in teh death penalty, the adult made a choice to break a law knowing the death penalty is in effect in their state. They knowingly chose to break the law. In effect, they knew that their actions may result in the forfeiture of their life. It was their choice.

What choice did the baby make?

On a sidenote, the ones that really blow my mind. Pro-choice meaning allow abortions but NO to the death penalty. Okay to kill innocent babies, murderers no, can't do that.

Absolutely! Without trying to threadjack, there is in no way that we, as humans, can ultimately say who's life is more worthy in God's eyes. That isn't what you are trying to imply, is it? That you can make the ultimate decision of whether a person deserves life or death?

From my understanding, we Humans rely on God's grace just to obtain salvation. We are all sinners, and the only reason we aren't condemned to hell is because of God's mercy on us. If that is the case, then we all deserve the death penalty. But I don't believe that humans can accurately make the choice of who deserves the thumbs up or thumbs down. I'll leave it to the Father in heaven.

Eternal salvation and the death penalty are not necessarily related.

The thief on the cross had the death penalty carried out but received eternal salvation.

You are still looking at it emotionally, God love you! ;) I understand your point. But honestly, pro-life means that you support ALL life.

Saying you are "pro-life" while supporting the death penalty is just as illogical as a bar owner saying he's against drinking.

I think we are one of the few countries left in the world that still uses the death penalty. Not sure why...

Not true. In my Comparative Politics class we just used a computer program that showed what countries used it, what still had it allowed but not practiced, and which had abolished it. There were more that have abolished it, but we are not one of a few that still use it that's for sure.

Did you notice which countries had abolished it and which still use it? I think what hb20 meant was that most "developed" countries have done away with it.

That may be the case, but that's not what he said.

To answer your question, most that still used the death penalty were the still developing countries, although I tend to think they are right on this one.

I still say that to be truly pro-life, you cannot be pro-death penalty, pro-euthanasia or pro-war. Life is life, no matter how ugly or innocent.

You guys are mostly just anti-abortion. And that's okay, just call it what it is.

The issue of prostitution isn't relevant.

I am speaking of the idea that we shouldn't choose when people deserve to die.

If you are against abortion, except in cases of rape, incest, or threat to the life of the mother, are you strictly Pro-Life?

If you are against abortion, except in cases of rape, incest, or threat to the life of the mother, are you strictly Pro-Life?

IMO, no. I believe that a true pro-lifer has the following thoughts:

On abortion- the only time it is permissible is when the life of the mother is in danger, and every attempt must be made to save the life of the baby as well.

On the death penalty- the only time it is permissible is when society holds no other resources to protecting itself from the criminal. (FWIW, if a third-world country has no dependable prison system, I am not too against the death penalty, because if society can not be protected (therefore more lives are being taken) then it is the only option.)

In both instances, the main goal is to allow as much life as possible.

The bottom line is the term "pro-life" is a misnomer. It was thought up by someone who thought they were being clever that didn't like the negative connotation of the term "anti-abortion," failing to realize they were dumping the movement's proponents into a logical fallacy.

Should we then call the Pro Choice crowd Pro Death ? That definatley would not be a misnomer.:D

Yes, it would be a misnomer. As a general rule, most "pro-choice" types are also anti-death penalty. Just call them "pro-abortion."

Which makes absolutely no sense at all....
