Does any one know any thing about Coal Grove?

I don't know a thing but good luck to the Wildcats.

Coal Grove used to be a really strong smaller program in Southern Ohio. They are still a decent program, but they loose quite a few players to Ironton every year. Coal Grove is normally a physical team and plays hard. I have not seen them this season, but Raceland's JV beat their JV 44-22.

I agree Ram, I don't know what they have this season but they weren't bad at all last season (I beleive it was last season) when they flat out whipped some larger schools.

They always were a primarily run the ball "3yds. and a cloud of dust" type team but I would be afraid to say now.

After posting earlier I started to look up and see if I could find anything, here is an article/preview on the Coal Grove Hornets. From the sound of this they are pretty good this season. I know that their coach is a well respected coach over there.

Man, Ironton and Coal Grove just sound like football towns. I read the this thread and immediately thought of Ampipe, and "All the Right Moves,".

Good luck to Newport though.

Coal Grove is actually on a bit of down turn so far this season as they'll enter the game with Newport with a record of 1-3, their lone win came 2 weeks ago at Lucasville Valley. The Hornets graduated the bulk of their offensive line from last season's conference championship team, thus the running game is struggling. However, Fullback Frank DeLawder (Jr.) is a load to handle in the backfield, but with little help on the O-Line he pretty much has to carry defenders on his back. Coach Dave Lucas' Hornets have struggled with discipline as well this season, as they have been heavily flagged in their games. Needless to say the Hornet fans have been pretty restless with this season so far. A win over Newport (Homecoming game by the way) would be a big win for the Hornets, who are really struggling. I would predict a close win by The Grove, but if they play like they did last week getting shutout at Minford, it could easily go the other way.

Newport 14-13.

Should be an interesting game. I believe Newport can win this if they can stop the running game and play smart.

They lost their 1st 2 games of the year and presently have a 1-3 record. There are 420 students in their high school, so they are similar size to Newport.

Coal Grove is a small school, but they do have athletes. Like I said earlier, its not their skill position guys as much as their line that's killing the Hornets this season. I think that if Newport can contain Delawder (CG Fullback) then Newport will be alright, but if he breaks loose for 120 yards or more then Newport is in trouble.

Newport has had problems stopping the running game this season. Hopefully they have made some adjustments to stop the running game.

Look for the Wildcats to win the game. They are getting better and starting to get the players in the right positions. Good Luck and have a safe trip!

I look for the Cats to come out of this game with the win. They had a very good week at practice. Short, Collins, and Thomas are the play makers for Newport and they will do what it take to get the win. Newport's D is looking a lot better, the LB have been working hard all week alond with tthe D line they are ready! Good luck to both team's and have a safe trip.

Nice article, looks like its going to be a good game Newport has had a hard time stopping the run so far this year. Newport needs to get on track.
