What's the Call: Very Interesting

Featured Replies

Team A winning by 1 with 3.5 seconds left. A1 is fouled while dribbling. Team A is in the bonus. A1 shoots the first FT and misses. B1 rebounds , passes to midcourt where A2 catches and shoots. Shot goes in (for a 3) . Goal is good.

HOWEVER, the scoreboard alerts the officials that Team A was in the Double Bonus therefore A1 should gets one more shot.

What now?

Does A1 get his second shot?

Does the 3 count for Team B?

Does time get put back on the clock?

I think you have A2 catching and shooting, when you meant B2. Assuming that is true, and assuming the final horn sounded after the shot attempt, team B wins.

If team A called time out and there's still time on the clock, I believe we have a correctable error scenerio. In that case, we go back and shoot the back side of the double bonus, and reset everything just as it was before the first shot.

That's my take, without looking anything up.

Clock should be reset and bonus shot taken ! No 3 .:ylsuper:

yep... thats a correctbale error. Time goes back on for 2nd FT and score is reset.

Polarbear and Scheat are 100% correct.

Thanks for the catch there. You are correct that it is B shooting the 3 and not A.

Why do you say "B" wins?

I assume you mean A called a TO after B made the basket. If so, you are partially correct but not completely correct on what to do.

The 3 point goal is good. This is a correctable error situation where A1 could be awarded his/her second free throw. However, since time had expired, Team B is up by 2 and the second merited free throw will have no effect on the outcome of the game, A1 is not awarded his second free throw and team B wins by 2.

So to answer the 3 questions you asked, 1) No 2) Yes 3)No

The answer is no rebound because ball is dead and time should not start and second free throw attempted would be allowed . It is still a dead ball no matter what the clock keeper does.:ylsuper:

How is the ball dead?

If you read the description, the refs told the players it was a 1 and 1. They rebounded and played (to their knowledge) a live ball and no one knew until after ball became dead (on the made 3 pointer) that it should have been a double bonus. You can't say none of this happened and you just go back. What if this happened at the 4 minute mark in the 4th quarter and the scorer doesn't tell the officials until 2 minutes later after several baskets are scored for both teams?

Go back and reread it doe's not say 1 and 1? So it is still a dead ball.:ylsuper:

In Clyde's first post, it says "Bonus", not double bonus, so I would have to say that means, 1 and 1. So it is correct that the rebound, pass, shot, horn goes off, basket goes in, 3 pointer counts. Team B up by 2, correctable error, but do to the fact that the shot will not change the outcome of the game, it will not be shot, Game Over!

Now lets change it a point and say, if Team A would of been up 2 points when this happens, it gets really fun, because the free throw would have to go back and be shot with no one on the line and no time remaining, if it goes in you have overtime, if it's missed, now the game is over! Interesting scenario.

Correct. Nice work.

Lets change it up.

A1 fouled and is shooting 1 and 1. A1 misses. A2 rebounds the missed FT and sticks it back in. B1 takes the ball out and throws to B2 who is fouled. B is not in the bonus.

Hold up. Desk says that A should have been shooting double bonus.

Now what?
