I don't disagree with anything you said in your post. I'm sure she's not the least bit worried if her viewership drops, and like you said, she can afford it even if it does happen. Didn't mean to imply anything tothe contrary. I will say that I don't recall anyone saying that Oprah should pander to our whims. Where did that come from?

 

 

I drew the pandering comment from the remarks that Oprah should have Palin on her show because that's what (apparently) women want. That's pandering to the whims. She does it with other guests, sure. Oprah doesn't strike me as the type who does anything that doesn't interest her. I'm cool with that, I can respect that.

Interest has zero to do with why. She's afraid of giving more momentum to the McCain/Palin ticket. It's as simple as that.

Given that's she's announced her endorsement of Obama, it's exactly what I'd expect. It doesn't interest her to further the McCain/Palin agenda. Hence, I'm still right.

I hope her show gets canceled! I know it won't happen but oh well! This is her first backing of a presidential nominee! Go figure!

Honestly (if you've watched her show much) did you until now look at Oprah as a political type person? As I've previously admitted I don't watch her show often, but I never got the impression that she was into politics or at least didn't wear it on her sleeves on her show. That's no longer the case. And as I've already stated, if she wants to, its her show so she can. But I do think this will cause a lot of people to look at her and her show differently. Some wiill of course think its for the better and some for the worse. Heck, if she doesn't care about that change in her image/perception, I sure don't. I'll just look at her as a person that had a great opportunity to present Palin to another group of voters for them to examine and assess, that chose not to for political and perhaps racial reasons.

I don't disagree with her having the right to choose whom she supports for any reason she wants. And likewise I have the right to choose to question her reasons if I desire to; and question her reasons for not allowing Palin to be on her show; and not watch her shows if I choose not to ; and not patronize her advertisers if I want to, etc., etc. I'm sure you get my point. Am I likely to stop patronizing her advertisers because of who she supports? Nope. Wouldn't even cross my mind. Since I don't watch her show, you can't stop doing something you don't do. But even if I did watch her show, I doubt I'd quit watching the show if I found her show entertaining. But I could see where others could if they felt she was being unfair. Heck, don't many groups call on the public to boycott companies that don't pay their foreign workers what the groups consider a fair wage, or do business in countries that the groups feel violate human rights? And honestly if people don't want to do business with those companies, so be it; and if people choose to not watch Oprah or support her advertisers because they don't think Oprah handled the situation fairly, so be it also. I won't be one of them, but to each their own.
