Madison Central 25 Mercer County 0

Featured Replies

Final from Danville.

Mercer outgains Central in total yardage 237-226 but also leads 5-1 in turnovers. Former Mercer player and current Central DB-KR Tyler Mays named MVP.

Congrats to Tyler Mays. Tyler not only has athletic ability, he has heart. I hope the kids that play against him can see what determination and the drive to win can do.

Can someone tell when the last time a Mercer County (Harrodsburg) team has been shut out offensively?

Louisville Holy Cross shut Harrodsburg out 28-0 in the first round of the playoffs in 2004. Mason County shut out Mercer County 47-0 in the first round of the 2002 playoffs.

Mercer was inside the red zone 3 times early in the game and could not punch it in. Once on the 1 yd line and fumbled. They double Madison Central's yardage in the first half. But big plays were the difference. Mays had 2 interceptions (1 for a TD), 1 fumble recovery, and a huge punt return TD that blew this game open. He was really something.

Mercer seemed to lack this... I didn't see any 'fire in the belly'.

Sounds like Mercer committed a lot of costly mistakes. Congratulations to Madison Central.

Wow, I thought Mercer was going to be the team to beat when they moved up.

It was a slow start for both teams in the first half. Tyler Mays had an outstanding third quarter returning a punt and interception for a touchdown. Central should have a great season ahead.
