Belfry/Louisville Holy Cross Predictions

Featured Replies

3A Belfry plays 1A Louisville Holy Cross in the 2nd game of Friday's Pike County Bowl hosted by Shelby Valley.

Game time is set for 8:30

Belfry has to be heavily favored, but they have a history of not coming out of the gate very well. If that happens, it could be very interesting.

What are your thoughts? Who will be there?

I haven't heard much that is encouraging about this HC team recently. They got manhandled by Louisville Southern in a scrimmage. Even though they are a 6A team playing a 1A team there is no reason that it should have happened. HC was playing at a very high level not too long ago and was beating decent 4A programs then as opposed to losing to bad 6A programs now.

I think Belfry destroys HC, even though I would like to see HC give a good showing.

Will be making the visit up to see the family and take in the game.

All accounts from last week's Hazard scrimmage were that Belfry looked a little rugged, that the O-line (granted without top lineman Ryan Blackburn) had struggled, and that Hazard was able to effectively move the ball in the live scrimmage portion.

Although Hazard is a 1A team, by all accounts they are a 1A team on a different level than Holy Cross.

I expect Belfry to take care of busness fairly handidly (4 TD's or so), but also expect it to be far from a shining performance from the Pirates as they still work in new players.

Holy Cross will have their hands full right out of the gate . We will be making the trip down Friday and look very forward to the Pikeville hospitality again . Holy Cross has a very young offensive line with 2 sophomores starting . They are taking the plunge and starting Devan Brown at QB and moving 2 year starter and Sr. Jimbo Nauert to RB . If their line holds up they can move the ball around very well . Their speed is a very big concern again this year as they still have no burners to run by someone . BUT , if they can get the ball in the hands of WR Hazlewood and spread things out , look out . Their defense is solid but still , speed is a factor . Very excited for the season to get underway .... Good luck to all .............

Could be the start of something big for Belfry

Cougar I hope you have a very safe trip down to Pike County! I have no doubt that HC will be prepared to come out and play the Pirates tough. Hope you enjoy your stay, if you need any reccomendations on things to do or places to eat, feel free to let us know and we'll be more than glad to offer our help in any way.

I would agree with Watusi....Haywood's teams sometimes down come out of the gate hard...but if they do, then its going to be a great year. If they don't, its still going to be a great year.

Belfry 34-13.

Staying at the Hampton Inn , I believe , so probably be hanging at the pool all day and then heading over to tailgate that evening . HC will bring a lot of fans as always . Very fun trip for all of us last year . Very hospitable last year . Do us one favor though : Don't kill us with the referees !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ha !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's hope that nothing comes down to a play that the refs factor into.

I'm not sure who the refs are this time around. Usually they have outside refs, and 1 or 2 of the crews have been from NKY in the past.

I'm kind of disappointed you guys won't get to come to Belfry and play in CAM Stadium. Shelby Valley has a nice complex, though, and it should be a great night.

Hampton Inn is the newest hotel in Pikeville, I think you will enjoy it.

Some places that are fairly close you may want to check out for dinner (all within 1 mile) and any Pikevillian can explain how to get there:

Mexican- El Azul Grande

Italian- Chirico's

Hot Dogs- Dorsey's Dairy Bar

Sports Bar- Champ's

If you plan on tailgating there is a large Food City as you approach Shelby Valley, right where US 460 splits off. Shelby valley has a very expansive parking lot and I am sure there will be sporadic Belfry tailgaters as well. Finding the stadium is very easy, just takes US 119/US 23 South, it will be off to your left about 5 miles outside of downtown Pikeville.

Within walking distance of the Hampton Inn you will find the small little city park where you can find out a little more about the history of the area (Coal Minng, Hatfield & McCoy's, etc)

Thanks for the info .... We won't be checking out the history , I.E. , the Hatfield's/McCoys as we have our own Hatfield/McCoy thing going on : It is called a Quarterback controversy !!!!!! Only time will tell ........ Thanks again .........

Pirates win big in this one.
