I am going to defend "Gametime" on this one.

 

His sources have been very credible in the past. I would guess they are credible in this situation, due to the fact that Stephon Ball is not listed in the media guide. I can reach only one conclusion as to why he is not.

 

This is a chat room filled with opinions, editorials, and speculation. Of "Gametime's" 65,000 + posts, he has had mostly accurate information. I don't always agree with it, but percentages say that is the way it should be.

 

If you think "Gametime" threw 18 year old Stephon Ball under the bus, he is not the only one. U of L's Sports Information Department seems to have beat him to the punch by not listing him in the media guide.

 

Keep on posting "Gametime".....your passion for sports knowledge is appreciated by this BGP member!

 

 

This isn't baseball where we measure batting averages. Even if this is the ONLY one GT got wrong, it still effects the kid. Feel free to ignore how you would feel if you were Stephon or his family with an "insider" posting false stories but I'd be quite unhappy.

Sure I would probably be upset, but playing college sports puts you in the public eye and you take the good and the bad of it. This wasn't a particularly hurtful rumor either.

 

I don't think you are wrong wanting GT to be accountable for what he said but GT didn't present this as dead on fact, it was clear it was coming out as rumor and when the rumor changed wind he came back and reported it. I wouldn't get worked up over it.

Just a quick question. How is this ANY different than the rumors that Liggins won't qualify?

 

GT said it was just the word going around, not that he knew it was true. I think we all know enough to take any such story with a grain of salt until it's proven one way or the other.

I'd seriously consider taking my advice. Your integrity should be important. Posting rumors such as this without knowing its true lessens your integrity and causes us to doubt your other "inside info."

 

Otherwise you're exactly what people complain about when they complain about message boards.

Just report on where a kid is leaning and tell us his stats and how he looked but leave the rumor-mongering to the bozos who get off on that stuff. Where would jealousy come into this? I don't fancy myself as a recruiting expert nor do I aspire to break any stories about kids grades so I'm not sure how that would make me jealous.

Contact UL and ask why he isn't on the roster. In the world of recruiting news this stuff is out there every day. If I was looking to "break a story" I would have ran with it on the day he picked UL. It's been on the internet for months....

I'd advise GT to listen to people who aren't friends of his if he wants a true perspective on the issue. Friends will always back a friend if the issue doesn't affect them. That's not a criticism. That's just how friends react. Its admirable that GT has many friends who have his back. It doesn't, however, change the facts that you shouldn't spread false rumors that are disparaging to a young man. His athletic scholarship does not give you nor me a free run at him.

Ball was on the money. He was finally cleared, and is now practicing for UL. There is still the chance he's been cleared to practice but not play. Hope that's not the case. He's a good kid that had a bit of a hard time in the classroom at a very tough school.
