Please Forgive (us folks from Harlan County)

Us folks from Harlan County for having an enthusiasm that is just crazy right now.

Closing our schools has been a hard thing to overcome and as difficult as it has been the ONE thing that we all have in common is our kids. These kids have came together and worked hard and have not let the fact that they are coming from three different schools affect their attitudes toward one common goal and that is making our communities proud.

We have something that we can all be apart of and we are all going to do our part to make this successful.

We, as fans, can't change that we are in class 3A. The players can't change it either. This is not going to diminish the fact that we want them to win a championship...no matter what Class they are in.

There's an excitement that I haven't felt in this county in a long time. Call it what you want but the fact is we are here for our Black Bears and we support our coaches, cheerleaders, band, students, faculty and staff.

So, for those that are getting tired of the Harlan County threads, I apologize. We are just pumped for these kids and want them to be successful...just as you want your own programs to be successful.

GO BLACK BEARS!!!!:ylsuper:

As you should. I love reading about the new school and your program.

Again what schools combined to make the new school?

Cawood,Cumberland,and Evarts.

I, for one, am glad Harlan County is in Class 3A, and more specifically in our (Breathitt County's) district.

I'm not sure what to expect from the Black Bears, but I expect them to be at least a top 10 team in 3A and they could be very good. As a Breathitt County fan, I like to be in a district with tough competition and I think Harlan County will be a good test and it's a game I'm looking forward to.

Good luck in the upcoming season, except when you play us.

And, I think all the uproar over Harlan County playing in 3A this season is ridiculous. I could care less in the first place, but even so, there's nothing that can be done about it now. Get over it. It's just not that big of a deal to me...if they happen to win the class this year, then so be it.

I am from a 1A school in a totally different part of the state...but I am excited for you! I hope that your boys start the new year off right and are successful and have fun. All these people that say they should "have to sit out a year of playoffs" surely wouldn't want it if it were their kid playing.

Keep up the enthusiasm!

Thank You all for your support and good luck to your schools. Like I have said before a lot of the people complaining probably don't play us or have the chance to play us. Excellent point about if it were their kids they wouldn't be screaming ban them from the playoffs. All they can say to us is if you were a smaller school playing this big school (Harlan Co. High) you would feel like we do.

As always seems to be the case when schools consolidate, I recall reading about the turmoil Harlan county was experiencing as people fought the consolidation and the closing of their individual schools. I believe hiring Coach Larkey and putting an emphasis on the upcoming football season as a source of pride and a common goal was a stroke of genius and it's great to see the people unifying behind their kids and their team.

This has been a tough couple of years for everyone. The consolidation has taken its toll BUT the people of this county know how to persevere through hard times.

This has been a small bump in the road compared to things that have happened years ago. The good thing is that ALL parts of this county can have some ownership of what all of these kids achieve, whether it be academically or in sports.

We'll all wear our colors with pride. We'll treat our visitors with respect and good sportsmanship and hope that your experience here is a good one...except of course, for losing the football game...lol

Evarts, Cumberland and Cawood High Schools are all well represented and we are proud of them...

Again, well said! :thumb:

I'm bout to bust with pride myself. The hard nosed football that Larkey will bring to Harlan county has a lot of people worried is why they're complain'n. This'll be another great program out of the mountains that will give them yanks up north something to worry about. I'm all for this big new school and I'm ecstatic for the kids to have this great opportunity. Shortly Harlan will be one of the top from the mountains, not just known for the choir and academics.. (not saying there not just as important!)hehe. GO BEARS!:ylsuper:

How bout that?! Getting a little love from Bell County!! LOL :ylsuper:

This should be an exciting season for Harlan Co.......................good luck to the Black Bears!

I'm not exactly sure on this, but I figure this is the place to ask. I've heard talk that junior Tyler Stewart isn't playing this year? I've not been able to get in contact with him as of late to ask, but if this is the case, any word on why he isn't? and is it being looked at as a loss? I know he is extremely athletic, and can play a variety of positions and could exceed greatly under the right system and work ethic, which Larkey will undoubtedly bring to the whole HCHS squad.
