Ramirez would waive his no-trade clause in exchange for the right to become a free agent at the end of the season.

 

He also would agree to decline salary arbitration when offered it by the Marlins in December, enabling the team to preserve its right to draft-pick compensation while avoiding getting crushed by Ramirez on a one-year deal.

Defensively, Manny would fit in to what they are trying to do in Florida.

First off I'm not a bandwagon fan. I've rooted for the Red Sox since I was 5 years old as anyone that knows me would tell you--I put up with all kinds of grief from my buddies over the years. As for the deal I'm fine with it. As much as I've enjoyed watching Manny play over the years it has become more and more obvious that his time in Boston is coming to an end at the end of the season if he isn't traded. Bay is signed for next season at a very affordable $7.5 Million. J.D. Drew's resurgance and the fact that Papi looks to be fully recovered so while Bay isn't the hitter that Manny is, he can replace most of his production. If it does go down I'll always be grateful for what Manny brought to the Sox during his tenure.

I'm hearing the the 3 team deal is more likely and I would be more in favor of it than the straight up deal with the Marlins. However, if it does come down to it I wouldn't feel too comfortable making the deal for Willingham, Hermida I could live with.

Now it looks like Hermida and maybe Stanton would go to the Buccos...

I’m hearing that a multi-team deal involving Jason Bay and the Florida Marlins is in the “final stages.” This could involve the previously in-place dealings involving Manny Ramirez as reported by our own John Perrotto. Joe Frisaro of MLB.com thinks that Bay could end up in Boston, Jeremy Hermida in Pittsburgh, and prospects flying every which way. My sources agree, though I will update as details become clearer

7:46pm: Rosenthal talked to a Marlins official who said there's "no way" Stanton is in the deal. The Fish might want young players back if they're giving up prospects.

If Boston is able to get Bay from the Pirates, it's going to make the Pudge trade look like the Red Sox brought home the Prom Queen while the Yankees brought home her sister that's the base of the cheerleading pyramid.
