July 29, 200818 yr Demetrius Jones has made significant strides during the summer as he rehabilitates from his torn labrum surgery of last fall, but Brian Kelly said today that the Notre Dame transfer is not yet ready to compete for the starting quarterback job which, for now, belongs to senior Dustin Grutza. Kelly said Jones has reached the point where he could probably be effective in short spurts - maybe 10 to 12 passes in a game - but that Jones is not physically ready to play an entire game at quarterback. "He can't beat out Dustin Grutza yet," Kelly said. "Can he strengthen his position as a part-time player? Absolutely. But he is not in the picture to take over the team and lead it to a championship." http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=blog04&plckController=Blog&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest&plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&plckPostId=Blog%3ada6629a0-7bd0-4605-8869-25a20cb5adabPost%3af013a6b0-71c0-438f-8454-9dc8cb4394b6&sid=sitelife.cincinnati.com
July 30, 200818 yr GT, nothing to do with the link, but I've started following UC a little bit more since they've hired Kelly and would like to make it to a game up there this season. I know Nippert is relatively small, and with last year's success, how hard do you think it would be to score a couple tickets? Are we talking outrageous from scalpers? Thanks in advance.

It's not to that level yet. They have sold a record number of season tickets so far, but ticket prices shouldn't be too crazy before games...

Nippert hold 35,000, they averaged 30,246 last season but had sell outs for the Louisville, WVU, and Marshal game. Most of their games this season are from nearby opponents (EKU, Ohio University) or big games(Rutgers, Pitt, USF) so it will probably be harder to get tickets this season.

July 30, 200818 yr Author How is parking and what is the tailgate scene like? Very limited for both. Fortunately you know someone...
July 30, 200818 yr Wouldn't mind a sampling of the many fine beverages Cincinnati's heritage has to offer. Don't suppose Nippert has a beer garden similar to what Riverfront used to have? Heck, I'm an Eastern alum, might try to make that one.
July 30, 200818 yr Author IMO, it still doesn't sound like Kelly has much faith in Grutza. Much more than a year ago. Still not sure that's saying much. Too many trips out to Higher Ground will give me a better grasp on Grutza and his place in BK's system this year...

I'm assuming once Jones is 100%, he'll be the starter. I'm curious to see how that Anderson kid does. There was some hype about him during the spring, wasn't there?
