I have noticed that in a few of the post on other threads that some have mentioned topwater as a favorite method of Bass (or other species) fishing so I thought that I would start a thread in asking what are everyones favorite topwater methods? Favorite lures, patterns, etc..

 

I'll list some of my favorites a bit later.

My favorites and in no certain order, would depend on conditions and whatever may be working at the time........

 

1. Buzzbait....nothing quite like a fish blowing up on a buzzbait (Bass and Musky), White ones in bright, sunny conditions and Black in cloudy skies.

2. Minnow types - Rapala, Rougue and othet type stick baits (somtime a bass just wants somthing "suttle"with very little noise on top.

3. Plastic frogs - there are several types of these and mostly used in weeds, matted grass and similar type cover. These, like buzzbaits can produce some explosive strikes.

4. Jitterbug - probably my all time favorite topwater for night fishing, color doesn't matter as long as it's Black.

I always liked twitching a dying flutter in the shallows

I forgot to add on my earlier post that I also love to use a small rubber spider on top for bluegill (w/fly rod).

Pop'R. And Luhr Jensen still makes a wooden bait called a Nip-i-didee that is an awesome topwater bait. You can throw it a country mile. But my fave is a buzzbait.

K.C. Twitcher better known as Whitie. It's a hand-made, balsa, bait with a prop on the back. It's by far the best top water bait I've ever used. It catches tons of fish everywhere I've used it. It's an Ohio River killer! I've won lots of money with it and the only place to buy them are @ the Tackle Box in Ironton, for about $9.00.

That secret is out and just now has been printed :eek:. I have a couple in my tackle box and you are correct, "Whitey" is an absolute killer anywhere, especially on the river.

My favorite is a buzz bait. To see a big ugly musky explode on a buzz bait is unreal.

Caught a 2.5lb'er on a jitterbug last week. Had my son with me and he was as excited as me when the bass hit it. First bass on a surface lure and it was awesome.

I'm still partial to my old top water baits.. Original Creek Chub Darters and Lucky 13's etc... The new Rico's are awesome also but quite pricey. Caught several 20 to 30 pound stripers on old Zara Spooks and Dog Walkers.. They seem to like the back and forth action of these baits...
