July 21, 200818 yr Ft. Thomas LadyHawks bring home the gold in U-14 Rec. They allowed only one goal in the tournament. Great job girls! This is a very very good rec. team.
July 21, 200818 yr This is a very very good rec. team. Yes, they are. Hats off to the St. Mary's girls who gave the Lady Hawks everything they could handle. 1-1 tie in pool play, and 1-0 Hawks victory in Gold medal game. Just great competition.
July 21, 200818 yr Went to see the Legens game at Applebee's Park on Friday night. At the end of the game they had sort of an opening ceremonies for the BG games. Governor Collins was there, as was Jarred (sp) the Subway guy (as a model of healthy eating and maintaining an active lifestyle). They "lit the torch", etc., a nice little ceremony.
July 24, 200818 yr Yes, they are. Hats off to the St. Mary's girls who gave the Lady Hawks everything they could handle. 1-1 tie in pool play, and 1-0 Hawks victory in Gold medal game. Just great competition. It was great competition. I am the coach of the Lady Hawks. My girls trained and practiced like champions for their opportunity. St. Marys was very classy during and afterward. I tip my hat to them. Have you seen my girls play? Just wondering.

July 27, 200818 yr I'm going back down today for the HS pool play. My daughter made the Highlands freshman team as an 8th grader. How'd they do?
July 27, 200818 yr My daughter's team brought home the gold playing in U-10 girls open and going 4-0. The team was all from Ft. Thomas, except for one girl from Alexandria. My son's team brought home the gold plaing in U-12 boys rec and also going 4-0. This team was a St. Thomas school team made up primarily of boys who will go to NCC or Highlands. It was a really fun weekend for our family with our kids going 8-0. Although I am sure our kids will both play sports at higher levels someday, I can't imagine it being any more fun than this past weekend. Running field to field watching both kids play, eating out and sharing great times with other parents, and just enjoying one another. Winning was just icing on the cake. Congrats to your kids Oldbird. Good times had by all it sounds like. We went down a couple years and it is a blast. Hotter than Haiti though on those fields. :fire:
July 27, 200818 yr How'd they do? Well........they came out in game one to Assumptions' JV team with the deer in the headlights look. The ball was on our defensive end quite a bit and were down 0-1 at the 1/2. Coach switched keepers to try out a different player and they ended up losing 0-2. The 1st half keeper was my Bluegrass keeper. My glasses are a bit tinted but I thought she did quite well. In game 2, they faced Manuels' JV team. They came out fired up. They went down 0-1 in the first 10 minutes but never put their heads down. 0-1 at the half. In the second half, Manuel passed back to their keeper and she played it with her hands. Highlands got a PK but the girl missed just a tad wide left. Final was 1-0 Manuel. With 13 8th graders and 6 freshmen playing against 2 JV teams, I think the freshman Lady Birds will do just fine in regular season play. Coach tried out players all over the place and some out of their normal positions to see who could do what. He stuck with 2 keepers and both held their own.

Sounds good, but you may have the games mixed up.
